A woman has faced court over an alleged six-month long conspiracy to cover up crime in Palmerston by convincing witnesses to tell lies to police.

Angela June Wheeler appeared before Darwin Local Court for the first time on Tuesday facing seven charges over an alleged attempt to pervert the course of justice in Palmerston.

It will be alleged the 47-year-old was involved in a six-month long campaign to fix witnesses, and corrupt an ongoing investigation from April to October last year.

It will be alleged the cover-up began on April 20, when Wheeler conspired and attempted to pervert the course of justice.

Police allege two months after the initial cover-up Wheeler persuaded a witness to give false testimony, while in September Wheeler allegedly corrupted a witness.

Details of the initial offence or any co-accused were not detailed in court, however her lawyer Robert Welfare said the case could be headed to the Supreme Court.

Judge David Woodroffe adjourned her matter to April 26 for a preliminary examination mention.
