A group of Indonesian fishermen have been slapped with more than $9000 in fines after they were caught fishing in Australian waters.

It comes as the fourth case of fishermen illegally entering Australian waters put before the Darwin Local Court in the past three months.

The six men - Saida Bahar, Abdul Bakri Mau, Ab Pello, Boston Ramadani, Madun Saida and Jeskial Tualaka - appeared on Wednesday.

Australian Border Force intercepted the boat off the Kimberly Coast of Western Australia on February 10.

Onboard they found 30 shark fins and 300kg of trepang stored in a large blue plastic.

They each pleaded guilty to the charge of using a foreign boat to fish in Territorial sea on a boat which had the capacity to illegally capture hundreds of kilos of fish.

An Indonesian interpreter translated the sentencing from Judge David Woodroffe to the men.

This time around the men, who are all fathers, were fined $1500 each, alongside a $150 victims’ levy.

Mr Woodroffe ordered if the fine was not paid within 28 days the fishermen could face a period of imprisonment.

“The majority of you are not young or inexperienced seamen,” he said.

“It wasn’t suggested that your boat had been blown off course or that you had to seek shelter due to the weather.

“In comparative cases with that level of equipment there was the potential for the capture of hundreds of kilos of stock.

“This is the fourth such occurrence this court has seen in the past three months of commonwealth prosecution of Indonesian fishermen.

“This is concerning and creates the greater need for general deterrents that reflect the nature of your offending.”
