A Humpty Doo man will spend up to 13 years behind bars after his sick catalogue of child abuse material was uncovered by a international investigation.

The Australian Federal Police confirmed that a 50-year-old Northern Territory man was sentenced in the Supreme Court on Friday after pleading guilty to possessing, producing and sharing 3500 child abuse images online.

It comes almost two years after the 50-year-old was initially charged by the Northern Territory Anti Child Exploitation Team, after his account was pinged by an global anti-child abuse investigative network.

This sparked raids at the Cullen Bay Marina in October, and then a search of his Humpty Doo home.

The AFP said officers found more than 500 videos and 3000 images of online child abuse and a bestiality video, and hundreds of messages on his phone about their distribution.

AFP Acting Superintendent Mal Bickford said child abuse was an abhorrent crime and had a significant impact on victims.

“These are not just images on a screen. Every image and every second of a video has a real child being abused and being subjected to a situation that no child should ever experience,” Superintendent Bickford said.

The 50-year-old was given a total sentence of 13 years and seven months, with a eight year non-parole period.
