Sara Connor: Byron Bay mum could be freed from Bali jail by June 2020

NSW woman Sara Connor, who is serving five years for her role in the death of a Balinese police officer, could be released within months under an annual Christmas remission program.

Byron Bay woman Sara Connor could be released from Bali’s Kerobokan jail by June 2020 after having one month sliced off her sentence on Christmas Day.

Connor, who is serving five years for her role in the death of a Balinese police officer who was found beaten to death on Kuta beach, is known as a low-profile inmate who regularly receives twice yearly remissions that are handed out at Christmas and on Indonesia’s Independence Day in August.

If the mother-of-two is given another Independence Day remission in 2020, as expected, she could be released from the hellhole jail by the middle of 2020 having served four years.

“Sara Connor got a one-month remission. She is eligible because she has a good attitude during her punishment and follows the rules here. Also, she does not break any of the

regulations in the jail,” said Lili, the head of the women’s section of Kerobokan Prison.

Connor’s former boyfriend David Taylor, 35 from Halifax in the UK, was found guilty of the killing and sentenced to six years jail in 2017. He was also awarded a one-month remission

off his sentence for Christmas this year.

American woman Heather Mack, who stuffed her murdered mother’s corpse into a suitcase in a posh Bali hotel and was sentenced to ten years jail, failed to secure a Christmas remission while her ex-boyfriend Tommy Schaefer, was rewarded with a four-week reduction off his 18-year sentence for bludgeoning Mack’s mother to death with a fruit bowl.

Mack, who sings the praises of life inside Bali’s infamous jail, is due for release in 2020.

Convicted Victorian paedophile Robert Ellis, 74, who is serving 15 years for his crimes against Indonesian children, was also awarded a one month and 15-day reduction to his jail

time.

Ellis sexually abused 11 girls under the age of 18 between 2014 and 2015. He has repeatedly complained about his sentence claiming that he paid his victims “generously”.
