But a close look at MH370 Captain Zaharie Shah’s life offers tantalising signs that support the theory he deliberately brought the plane down in a mass murder-suicide plot.

A mysterious relationship with a young woman, claims of a marriage in trouble and political activity were all raised as the investigation into the disappearance played out.

Now they are re-examined in Sky News documentary MH370 The Untold Story, fuelling new questions about the guarded conclusions of official reports when our then Prime Minister Tony Abbott was told by Malaysian officials at the highest level that Shah was to blame.

The first episode, which aired on Wednesday night, was the most watched subscription television program around the country — with a total audience of 175,000.

This was a 44 per cent increase on the audience for the first episode of Bad Blood and 70 per cent up on Lawyer X.

The record-breaking result is the highest audience Sky News has ever achieved, outside of the live coverage of the 2019 Federal Election and the 2013 Labor Leadership Spill.
