Residents have been warned to close their windows and doors as firefighting crews continue to battle a warehouse at Brookvale in Sydney’s north.

Emergency services were called to Old Pittwater Rd just after 7pm on Monday following reports of an industrial unit on fire.

On arrival, officers attached to Northern Beaches Police Area Command found three units within the complex, including an auto repair business, “well alight”.

Fire and Rescue NSW contained the fire that evening; however, it was not extinguished and is expected to continue burning for days.

No people were injured or were inside the building at the time of the fire, which is being treated by police as suspicious.

FRNSW superintendent Adam Dewberry said crews were onsite to investigate the cause of the blaze.

“We’ve got our investigators on scene and they are starting to do their initial investigation,” Mr Dewberry said.

“But, they can’t do anything until they get into the building, which is not safe to enter because of the structural integrity.”

Mr Drewberry said parts of the roof had collapsed on Tuesday, with a drone being used to identify hot spots.

The smoke plumes seen during the night had largely dissipated that morning, with warnings still in place.

The local council and NSW Environmental Protection Agency had also been brought in to assess environmental damage.

FRNSW had put in place booms in the waterways, with the NSW EPA were carrying out checks of the water run-off.
