What you missed on TV: Caroline Wilson defends story despite ‘false’ claims, Chris Scott’s defence of Bailey Smith

Caroline Wilson has doubled down on her Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera story despite the Saint’s manager calling it ‘false’. Plus Bailey Smith’s ‘joke’ that didn’t hit the mark and more in the footy show wrap.

Bailey Smith the jokester? Chris Scott thinks so.

And Caroline Wilson has doubled down on her reports that Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera won’t go to Adelaide, despite his manager saying the reports are “false”.

Check in on everything you missed on TV last night.

AGENT DOESN’T KNOW: CARO BACKS CALL AFTER ‘FALSE’ CLAIMS

The dashing Saints defender is out of contract and has been heavily linked to a move back to South Australia at the end of the 2025 campaign.

Wilson reported on Monday’s Agenda Setters that Wanganeen-Milera was not considering the Crows due to Taylor Walker’s racism scandal in 2021 – which was quickly labelled “false” by the Saint’s player agent Ben Williams.

But Wilson reaffirmed her belief on Tuesday’s episode of Agenda Setters.

“I don’t think Ben Williams probably knows, fully, how Nasiah actually feels,” she said.

“Nasiah could change his mind, but that is what Nasiah has told colleagues and friends.

“Tim Silvers (Adelaide CEO) was disappointed and he said he didn’t believe the story, and I told him I believe it was 100 per cent right.”

Wilson said it was an issue with Walker personally, rather than the Crows as a club, that was causing some hesitation for Wanganeen-Milera.

She said Walker was not happy with the reports, and she said he should call Wanganeen-Milera directly to resolve the reported issue.

“This is about Taylor Walker, this is not about the Adelaide football club,” she said.

“If he is absolutely adamant as Adelaide people say he learned his lesson, he was educated, and he is truly sorry for what happened... I think Taylor should ring Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera and tell him how devastated he is by these suggestions and ask him what he can do to fix it.

“Let’s just hope that Taylor really has done everything he can (to learn from the scandal).

“I will take him at his word – but if he really has, somehow he needs to communicate that with Nasiah.”

SHAKING THEIR HEADS: LYON CAN’T BELIEVE CARRY ON

Garry Lyon has defended Melbourne duo Max Gawn and Steven May, saying old footy greats were shaking their heads over the media circus surrounding their on-field disagreement.

Cameras captured the pair in a heated moment after the one-point loss to Collingwood on Monday, with the skipper pushing May away after his errant one-step torpedo landed in Will Hoskin-Eilliot’s lap.

Lyon said on AFL 360 that he couldn’t believe the attention the incident was receiving.

“I spoke to someone tonight as we were getting ready for this broadcast, who played in my era and just shook his head at this and said ‘can you believe the carry on’,” he said.

“It was a different time.

“If some of the stuff got out back in the day of which I look at as a brutal feedback session, would make your hair curl.”

Lyon said history was “not on Melbourne’s side” after the club’s recent turbulent seasons.

“Had this been at Geelong, it’s probably lauded as professionalism of a hard-nosed outfit,” he said on AFL 360.

“They need to resolve it internally, I thought Max was self-deprecating and taking some heat out of it... like a good leader would.

“Wasn’t a great look, they need to resolve it within the group, and it’ll be done and dusted.”

Whateley agreed, saying the club had built an environment where feedback was welcomed, but it wasn’t the right way for May to remonstrate with his captain.

“First reaction is, ‘don’t go and rub his one mistake of the day in his face’. That probably wasn’t the intention but that’s how it looked,” he said.

“Max goes: ‘no no, my reaction was poor, we’ve tried to build a culture where feedback is instant and it’s as aggressive as it needs to be and it’s never personal’.

“It can never be personal.”

BAZLENKA ‘TROLLING A TROLL’: SCOTT

Geelong coach Chris Scott has defended ongoing criticism of Bailey Smith’s use of social media, saying his ‘nose beers’ comment on Instagram was “a joke”.

Smith was subjected to scrutiny, as well as a visit from the AFL’s heavy hitters including CEO Andrew Dillon, after his comments on social media about using drugs after a 2025 premiership win.

But Scott said on Channel 7’s Agenda Setters program that his response was the modern-day approach.

“I think he responded to a troll in the way that modern-day players respond to trolls,” he said on Agenda Setters.

“I think it was a joke and it should’ve been intended that way.

“Because of his history, that’s why he gets targeted by these sorts of people and these sort of comments.

“He’s (Andrew Dillon) is entitled to his opinion as well, and I’d challenge that as well, I think they (AFL) understand it was a joke that fell flat.

“Bailey understood almost immediately that that wasn’t something he should’ve done.

“We’ve got to remember that he’s 23... we knew we needed to ride with the punches a bit.”

Reporter Caroline Wilson was especially critical of the club’s lack of disciplining the star Cat, suggesting she wanted Scott to “make it clear it was wrong and not just stick up for them”.

Scott fired back at Wilson, suggesting the club didn’t need to air its dirty laundry with the media to appease critics.

“Why would you take the position that our football club just thought ‘no no that’s fine, we’ll let that slide.’,” he asked Wilson.

“Just because we don’t come out publicly and embarrass our players and rub salt into the wound doesn’t mean that conversation hasn’t been had.”

KYSAIAH PICKETT A DEMON TIL 2034

Melbourne great Garry Lyon is delighted Kysaiah Pickett will be staying in the red and blue deep into the next decade, saying he will be the Demons’ best player.

Pickett is days away from signing a seven-year extension to remain a Demon, with Jon Ralph reporting the deal is worth $1.4 million per season.

Lyon said “it’s a lot of money”, but Pickett is worth the cash.

“I commend them for having a go at keeping what will be their best player,” he said on AFL 360.

“It’s a lot of money, but that’s the world we live in.

“To get to Perth was always going to be problematic anyway

“Make home here and keep him as a Melbourne player.

Despite having two of the largest contracts in the AFL already, Melbourne has the cash to splash on Pickett.

Ralph reported on the Midweek Tackle the deal would happen “in the coming days”.

“Right now Clayton Oliver is on $1.7 through to 2030, Christian Petracca is something really similar,” Ralph said on Midweek Tackle.

“They’ll rip up the current contract and say whatever we need to sign up Kozzie Pickett we’re prepared to do.

“They have money in the salary cap, of course they didn’t get Dan Houston, they’ve moved on from Luke Jackson.

“It will happen in the coming days.”
