Finals time is fast approaching for Aussie rules leagues across NSW and it’s time to recognise those who are getting it done in front of the big sticks.

From the South Coast right up to the North and as far west as Broken Hill, we look at the top goalscorers for every open senior men’s competition in NSW:

CANBERRA

Andrew Swan, Queanbeyan - 35

Part of a dominant Tigers forward line, resulting in his selection for the AFL Canberra representative team.

Has a top haul of seven goals this season, but needs to push hard to hit the 64 he reached in 2022.

Rhys Pollock, Queanbeyan - 30

A sign of the Tigers strength is having the top two goalscorers to this point in the season.

Pollock has slotted 30 majors from his 12 games, with his best a big bag of 10 against Gungahlin.

Angus Jones, Eastlake - 29

Jones has brought a consistency in front of goal for Eastlake after returning to the region following a stint in Sydney.

Averaging almost three goals a game with a best of seven for the year.

HUNTER/CENTRAL COAST

Brandon Lloyd, Killarney Vale - 29

His personal haul of 29 for the season is the best he’s recorded in a great sign for Lloyd heading into the post-season.

Has a best of six this season.

Jordan Dear, Newcastle City - 26

The main man upfront for Newcastle City who has been getting it done with 26 goals in 11 games.

Twice he’s managed to finish with bags of five.

Max King, Cardiff - 24

The most impressive stat for King's 26 goals for Cardiff is that he has reached the tally in just seven games.

Slotted nine against The Entrance to help him into third on the list for the Hunter/Central Coast region.

RIVERINA

Sam Stening, Collingullie Wagga - 49

A regular among the top goalscorers in the strong Riverina Football League, Stening is chasing his tally of 66 last year.

Consistency has been his strong point in 2024, and he has a best tally of seven in a game.

Jade Hodge, Leeton Whitton - 44

Hot on the heels of Stening is Jade Hofge from Leeton Whitton who sits just five behind with a total of 44.

We’ve seen him kick bags of six twice this season.

Nathanael Mooney - Collingullie Wagga - 40

Mooney is incredibly one of four Collingullie Wagga players inside the current top 10, a real show of their strength.

A best of six has him sitting at 40 and within touching distance of the top.

FARRER

James Roberts, The Rock Yerong Creek - 55

The TRYC talent has been on fire to edge ahead in the race for the title of Farrer’s best goalscorer.

A best of eight and two hauls of seven keeps him just ahead.

Jarrad Boumann, East Wagga Kooringal - 54

The East Wagga Kooringal gun and former Hawthorn Hawk is having his best goalscoring season to date by cracking the half century.

He has a best of nine for the year and is just one goal off Roberts in top spot.

Kieran Emery, Marrar - 43

After kicking five goals in last year’s AFL Sydney grand final for UNSW/ES, Emery has had an immediate impact in the Farrer League.

The tall forward has a best of eight and an impressive haul of 43 for the year.

NORTHERN RIVERINA

Lachlan Robertson, Lake Cargelligo - 57

Robertson has surged to the top of the Northern Riverina standings and it is far and away his best season in front of goal.

A top of nine has him pushing into 60 and 70 territory.

Steven Hickson, Tillibigeal - 44

Would need a big finish to the year to catch Robertson, but we know Hickson is capable of kicking the lights out.

Needs to replicate his best of 11 in a game.

Lachlan Keefe, Hillston - 34

Has been an integral part of the Hillston success to help them to the top of the table in the Northern Riverina.

34 for the year with a best of seven is a strong output.

HUME

Luke Gestier, Holbrook - 53

There’s plenty of big boots in the Hume competition and none bigger this year than Luke Gestier of Holbrook.

He’s kicked five or more goals in five games as he chases a best of 79 back in 2022.

Trent Castles, Jindera - 44

We’ve seen Trent Castles crack the century of goals four times throughout his career, a testament to the Jindera star.

He has a best of 11 this season and will need to pull out similar to reach the top again.

Shannon Terlich, Henty - 43

Henty’s Shannon Terlich has been doing his best to keep them in the race for the finals with a strong season.

He’s booted 43 goals and has a best of nine.

George Alexander, Osborne - 43

It’s little wonder Osborne is riding high at the top when you consider the impact of Alexander in just over half a season.

In nine games he already has 43 goals, including a haul of nine majors and three of seven.

BROKEN HILL

Cody Schorn, South - 57

Cody Schorn is a genuine star of the competition and his average of more than seven goals a game speaks to that.

Has hit 10 just once, showing how consistent he has been.

Jayden Kelly, North - 26

You have to go a fair way back to see the next best in the Broken Hill comp, but North’s Jayden Kelly has been performing well.

A best tally of seven gives him a serviceable year.

NORTH COAST

Nicklaus Stanlan-Velt, Coffs Breakers - 49

The North Coast comp has been battered by wet conditions, but Stanlan-Velt of the Coffs Breakers has stood tall above that.

He is the dominant force in the competition with 49 goals from 11 games.

CENTRAL WEST

Timothy Hunter, Bathurst Bushrangers - 38

Hunter is fast on the way to beating his previous best tally of 47 with a nice season of 38 so far in just 10 games of action.

A best of seven has helped the Bushrangers forward.

Sam Sloan, Bathurst Giants - 31

Has been a consistent player for the Giants when needed and has come up with some big games when required.

Three times this year he’s finished with bags of six.

Hugh Templeton, Bathurst Bushrangers - 28

Another Bushrangers player in the top three.

Templeton has been a consistent performer all season for Bathurst with a best haul of six.

SAPPHIRE COAST

Dylan Jordan, Merimbula - 39

Jordan hasn’t always been at the top of the standings, with the Merimbula weapon launching 11 goals in the last round to rocket his way to top spot.

Sets him up for a big finish to the year.

Jono Smedley, Bermagui - 31

The previous goal scoring leader from Bermagui will need to produce something big over the concluding rounds.

But Smedley has so far, including seven goals in a game and two lots of six-goal matches.

Trevor Thomas, Bermagui - 30

We’ve seen Trevor Thomas crack the 10-goal milestone this year and it’s a great sign for the club to have a pair of players in the top three.

Not out of the race just yet.

SOUTH COAST

Dan Posch, Shellharbour City - 30

The Shellharbour City forward has been in extraordinary form so far this season, with his 30 goals coming in just seven games.

His last outing saw him boot home 11 majors.

Ciaran Flynn, Northern Districts - 26

Part of a strong Northern Districts side that has gone through the season undefeated so far.

Has a best haul of six in a talented forward line.

Angus Tarpey, Northern Districts - 24

It’s quite remarkable that Angus Tarpey is one of four Tigers players who is currently in the top five of the goalscoring ranks.

He’s added 24 of his own with a best game of six.

SYDNEY

Hugo Birks, UTS - 39

It’s no easy feat to lead the AFL Sydney goalscoring ranks and the UTS Bats gun has that honour so far.

With a best game of nine goals, it’s a feat made even more special by the fact the Bats are 3-11 for the year.

Nik Dale, Sydney University - 37

Hot on the heels of Birks is Sydney University’s Nik Dale who sits just two goals behind as they look to push for a top-two spot.

A best game of six for Dale in 2024.

Harrison Pitt, Pennant Hills - 34

The Sydney representative has been able to get the job done regularly for the Demons so far in 2024.

Three games with five goals show he can go off in any given fixture.

Ben Zoppo, Inner West - 34

Another Sydney representative who has been on fire in front of goal to sit in a tie for third with four regular season rounds remaining.

Has a best tally of seven as the Magpies look to rise into the top four.
