A junior rugby league match has been marred by an ugly altercation between parents at the weekend.

The U10s fixture between the South Eastern Seagulls and Redfern All Blacks at Heffron Park descended into chaos with adults present involved in a physical altercation.

Taking place in the South Sydney Juniors competition, concerned parents can be seen taking their children from the field.

The Redfern All Blacks issued a statement on Monday night, vowing to take appropriate action and create a safe space at junior league fixtures.

“The Board of Redfern All Blacks RLFC is deeply concerned about an incident involving spectators that occurred during the Under-10 match held on Sunday 15 June,” it read.

“Our primary commitment is to provide a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for all participants — especially our young players.

“We are currently reviewing the incident and will work with relevant stakeholders, including teams, families, and officials, to ensure appropriate actions are taken. Where necessary, we will implement further measures to prevent similar incidents in the future, including reinforcing our Codes of Conduct with all spectators and club members.

“We will continue working hard with our Rugby League authorities and partners to create safe spaces for our members and players to enjoy the game of rugby league. One where they are not exposed to abuse, intimidation and racial vilification at their sporting games.

“Let this be a reminder that junior sport exists for the development and enjoyment of children. It is the responsibility of all adults present to model positive behaviour and uphold the spirit of the game.

“We thank the majority of our spectators across the game who continue to support players and officials with encouragement and respect. Together, we can ensure that our sporting environment remains safe and enjoyable for all.”

This masthead has confirmed a conduct panel hearing is scheduled to take place tonight in regards to the incident.

Both clubs were contacted for comment, with both South Eastern and Redfern following due process in regards to tonight’s hearing and refraining from further comment until then.
