Wanderers’ impressive start to the new NTFL season gets another boost with Ronald Fejo’s Rising Star nomination

IT’S no secret Wanderers’ fleet footed youngsters have been one of the big reasons why the Eagles have flown into second position on the Premier League ladder.

Three wins from four matches, including come-from-behind wins over Southern Districts and St Mary’s, has the blue and gold army up and running.

Pivotal to their rise from second last in 2019 has been the pace and skill of players like Ronald Fejo Jr, this week’s Round 4 nomination for the much sought after $500 NT News Rising Star award.

A wingman by trade with his pace and evasive skills keeping him away from heavy traffic, the 18-year-old can play through the middle and up forward where he can do the maximum damage with his right foot kicking.

Second year Wanderers coach Shannon Motlop can see some big improvements in his young charge, most of them through Fejo’s increased use of the football.

“Ronald’s finding his feet as a league footballer and that includes the confidence and self belief you need at the top level,’’ Motlop said.

“He’s in his second season of Premier League football and with that has come the ability to run and carry the footy with his leg speed and use it to his side’s advantage.

“I can see a lot of improvement in Ronald’s ball use, to the point where he will become a very important player for Wanderers Football Club way into the future.’’

The 2020-21 NTFL Rising Star wins $500 in cash and a trophy that will allow him to stand alongside previous winners in Raphael Clarke, Matthew Whelan, Malcolm Rosas and last year’s Rising Star Brodie Lake.
