NBA 2020: Timberwolves roasted for D’Angelo Russell injection post
An NBA team is being torched across the internet for perhaps the most moronic tweet of the week — and they’re standing by the stupidity.

The Minnesota Timberwolves have delivered a genuine contender for dumbest tweet of the week after a social media post on Saturday morning left commentators scratching their heads.
The franchise has been under the pump since a cheeky dig at US President Donald Trump backfired spectacularly.
In the early hours of Saturday morning, the T-Wolves posted a picture of star guard D’Angelo Russell on Twitter along with a caption that was designed to poke fun of Trump’s latest boneheaded gaffe.
The team ended up with egg all over its face.
It came after Trump was forced into damage control for a suggestion that disinfectants could be injected or ingested to fight coronavirus.
The comments drew widespread criticism from medical experts across the United States.
The White House said the president’s comments had been misrepresented by the media, and Trump said he had been speaking sarcastically. But a transcript of his remarks suggested otherwise.
“Is there a way we can do something like that, by injection inside or almost a cleaning?” Trump asked of disinfectant products.
“Because you see it gets in the lungs and it does a tremendous number on the lungs. So it would be interesting to check that.”
Like many others, the Wolves attempted to have a laugh at the POTUS’ expense.
Their attempt at humour very much had the opposite effect.
In a tweet referencing Russell’s trademark “ice in his veins” celebration, the Timberwolves’ social media team proceeded to call for their fans to inject something else into their systems.
“Inject ice in your veins, not disinfectant,” the tweet said.
It included a bloody syringe emoji for good measure.
It took seconds more than minutes for the team to be accused of inadvertently advocating the injection of methamphetamine, sometimes known as ice.
On Saturday afternoon (AEST) the tweet was still standing undeleted after more than 14 hours.

The Wolves and their marketing team have gone as hard as humanly possible to drum-up Russell’s “ice-man” credentials since the team traded for him in February.
He was welcomed to Minnesota with a team-organised photo shoot on an ice sculpture cut into the shape of a thrown.
Unfortunately, their latest attempt missed the mark.
The internet did not miss them.
Rethink this

Russell in 2016 explained the reasoning for his iconic bucket celebration.
“It’s something my dad said growing up. He always said you have to be prepared for big moments, you gotta have ice in your veins,” Russell said in an interview with GQ.
“You have to have no feelings. You have to go out there and play your hardest and do what you do. That was the celebration what I performed well and knowing he prepared me mentally.”
