DESPITE the fact his team is sitting in sixth spot with one win from three games, Uni Rebels coach Malix Laurel is happy with the performances his players have put up so far in the 2020 DBA Championship season.

The Rebels will back their chances against Ellas Titans in Round 4 action tonight.

Titans boast DBA superstars Deola D’Brown and Willie Shackleford but have been short on depth in the early stages of the competition, going winless over the first three games.

“We’re going OK. We’re trying some new things with the inexperience we have because we can’t have any imports this year due to the COVID-19 situation,” Uni coach Malix Laurel told the NT News.

“Eric Klenke (averaging 18.33 points per game) has been one of our best players over the first three rounds. He’s been very productive and consistent.

“And Mixon (Laurel) was very good in our win over Lightning (scoring 17 points in the 66-58 victory).

“Julian (Punsalang) has been my project over the past two years and he’s playing with more confidence now.”

Tonight’s other game will see the first-placed Tracy Village take on the fourth-placed Eagles in what should be a close encounter.

In women’s Round 4 action, fourth-placed Ansett takes on second-placed Lightning, and the first-placed Jets will face Rebels, in third spot.

“We all haven’t stopped training and the sessions have been good,” Tracy Village captain Kylie Duggan said.

“Our new recruit Michelle Ellis has been dominant for us (averaging 15.33 points per game) and is a great asset to our team.

“And Lauren Flanegan is one of our consistent players, and is a handy three-point shooter.

“We’re looking strong, but we’re always looking to improve across all areas, and we never stop trying to improve.”
