The Aboriginal flag will be missing from AFL grounds during this weekend’s Sir Doug Nicholls Round due to copyright issues.

A COPYRIGHT issue with Australian Aboriginal flag licence holders WAM Clothing means this week’s AFL Indigenous round will be missing its traditional marker.

The Aboriginal flag will be replaced with the word “Deadly’’ on every ground hosting Round 13 matches, including the popular Dreamtime Game between Essendon and Richmond at TIO Stadium on Saturday night.

The AFL has confirmed that the word ‘Deadly’ will the replacement painting when Indigenous round kicks off in Darwin on Friday night with the Gold Coast Suns-Carlton clash.

The name of traditional land owners where the matches are being played will also be featured on all AFL grounds during the Sir Doug Nicholls round.

WAM Clothing purchased the licence to the flag design in 2018.
