Aussie Rules
Central Australian Football League
South Under 15 boys
WINS: 11
South has recorded some massive wins this year, with a 114-point hammering of Federal in round one, then a 145-7 belting of West in round 10. Their closest match has been a 20-point tussle with Pioneer.
South Under 18 boys
WINS: 10
South is dominating the junior grades in 2022, giving the Under 18 competition a might shake up: kicking big scores and enjoying massive wins over Federal in round one (140 points) and round 11 (104 points).
Papunya Senior Men
WINS: 9
Papunya has dominated the community league, with its closest games being 14-point wins over Western Aranda and Ltyentye Apurte. Its biggest win, in round three, was a 97-point flogging of Plenty Highway.
Barkly Australian Football League
Spitfires senior men A grade
WINS: 11
The Spitfires have been challenged at times this year in Barkly’s top league, with a seven-point win over BWC its closest match.
However, it has also destroyed a few rivals, including a 139-point point belting of Jalajirrpa in round eight.
Cricket
Nightcliff’s Premier Grade T20 team
WINS: 6
The Tigers went through the Darwin & District Cricket Competition’s T20 league without dropping a match, beating Tracy Village in the grand final on Thursday night at Gardens Oval by a whopping 113 runs.
The closest Tracy came to a loss was in the sem-final where they snuck home against Waratah by three wickets, bringing up victory with a ball to spare.
Meanwhile, Darwin’s E Grade team wasn’t far off a perfect record with just one loss so far.
Hockey
Easts A Grade Men
WINS: 9 DRAWS: 1
The reigning premiers are back and doing what they do best, winning.
Sicty four goals and only 14 conceded is a more than dominant year.
The side started the season off in fine form with a 7-1 win over Saints and a 12-0 win over Commerce in four, sealing their place on top of the tree.
Their only relative blot came in a 1-1 draw against the second-placed Tigers.
Waratah Red Under-12s
WINS: 12 DRAWS: 1
It’s the young Waratah side who are the pick of the juniors.
They may not be the best goal-happy side of their league, but with 92 scored and just 41 conceded, they’ve done enough to stay at the top.
They had a close call in round seven against a fearsome Tigers Gold side who ran them close with an 11-10 game.
Easts Under-16s Girls
WINS: 11 DRAWS: 1
It was Easts again who showed their stuff in the junior girls competition.
Their dominance is best shown in their goal scoring ability, having nailed 134 goals from just 12 games.
Among their most dominant games was a 22-2 win over Banks Black and a 15-1 win over PINTS.
Soccer
Casuarina White Under 12
WINS: 5 DRAWS: 2
Casuarina are five points clear in the 12 and Under Pool B competition, and have a spotless record — but only just.
The closest result so far this year has been a three-all draw with Olympic Heroines, and a five-apiece leveller with Litchfield.
The powerhouse’s biggest win was over Mindil Fire, 19-0, and have since been moved into Pool A.
Mindil Aces Over 35s
It’s not just the juniors setting the bar high but a few veterans of the world game too, with the
Aces’ Over 35s going through their 2022 competition with a 6-0 win-loss record with just one draw.
NRL NT
Northern Sharks A Grade men
WINS: 14
The reigning premiers have returned in 2022 with an air of unconquerable confidence. They’ve put over 30 points on every team in the league, except Litchfield, in what has been a clearly dominant season so far.
Their closest call came in a 20-10 round 10 win over Bears, where they were forced to spend 30 minutes a man down.
Darwin Brothers Senior Women
WINS: 12
A points difference of 454 paints a very clear picture that the Brothers’ women are on top and mean to stay there.
A frightening level of depth in experience and youth has not led them astray and opposition sides will be hard pressed to get one over them.
Beating last year’s premiers, Palmerston, 50-0, has been a defining part of their season with their lowest winning margin being 18 points, a 24-6 victory in round one.
Central Australia Rugby Football League
Alice Springs Brothers Senior Men
WINS: 12
It’s been thrashing after thrashing for the Brothers men.
Almost unstoppable, the side is on a nine-game winning run, with three coming from forfeits. When they have played it has been utter domination, including a 100-12 win over United and 74-22 mauling of Central Bulls.
