THE Territory Buffaloes’ women’s captain Rhiannon Busch wants more representative matches as a means of striving for excellence in the sport.

The Territory beat Glenelg by 28 points in Saturday’s clash, leading all day and holding the SANFL club to a single goal.

“We were absolutely rapt at the end of the game where club rivalry was left at the door from the very first training session we had,’’ Busch said.

“We really got around each other after that, both on and off the field and shared some time with the Glenelg girls as well which was great.

“It’s something that must be continued. A rep game every year would be amazing because not every talented footballer in the Territory is going to get drafted and there needs to be something to strive towards.’’

Busch said the historic win in the Buffalo women’s first match as a representative side had set a new standard for the Territory game.

“The SANFL players and players from other semi-professional competitions come up here during their pre-season and it’s a good level of footy up here now,’’ she said.

“I think we proved that on Saturday, because it actually was a physical game out there where the low scores, combined with the rain and the weather made it pretty tough.

“We’re used to those sort of conditions up here, where the Glenelg girls only get that in their winter and it’s different weather anyway.

“It was pretty slippery, but if someone missed a mark or a ground ball we were there to support them and it paid off for us in the end.’’
