THE 20-21 Women’s Premier League season will be remembered for its lift in standard and big number of interstate recruits.
PINT dominated the home and away season, winning all 16 games under coach Rick Nolan while the Darwin Buffettes, St Mary’s, reigning premier Southern Districts and Nightcliff made up the top five.
It was also a season when several interstate recruits made the trek to Darwin to get the feel of a football after the COVID-19 pandemic wreaked havoc with competitions in the southern states.
Selecting a team of the year from a competition that outstripped any previous season for its skill and intensity was always going to be tough, particularly when several players from the top 25 from the mid-season report were left out.
WING - TABITHA MAY (PALMERSTON MAGPIES)
Another consistent season with the Magpies. Has tremendous leg speed and good skills with hand and foot. Was in the Magpies best players in 13 of the 15 games she played, an indication of her consistency over the season. The one player in the Magpie side rival coaches assigned defensive roles to because of her ability to break a game open.

CENTRE - ELIZA MORRISON (NIGHTCLIFF TIGERS)
Morrison’s second season with the Tigers has been her best. Was in her side’s best players in nine of the 14 games she played. The Tigers’ co-captain with Hanna Turnbull is excellent at reading the play and has a great work rate. Will play for VFLW club Western Bulldogs when her Top End commitments are over.

WING - KATIE STREADER (PINT)
Came back from a broken arm where she missed seven games in the middle of the season to be a big contributor across the middle or roving for the unbeaten Queenants. Can run and carry the football with great effectiveness, but it is her leadership skills that make her a standout player and one of great importance to the Queenants.
RUCK - JASMYN HEWETT (PINT)
The former Gold Coast Suns ruck has been in supreme form and moves from the top three to the summit in a 14-game season that has produced 21 goals on her forays forward and a lot of heavy work at centre bounces and around the ground. Has a big leap and can take a high mark or one close to the ground where her athleticism.
ROVER - RENI HICKS (PINT)
Has starred in an on-ball role for the Queenants since Christmas after forcing her way into the side. Defensively her tackling is among the league’s best, making her a big asset to the freewheeling PINT’s side. VFLW high flyers North Melbourne have signed her for the 2021 season in another indication of her class.
