PICKING a winner between Women’s Premier League grand final rivals Darwin Buffettes and PINT this week will be a tough task.
The Buffettes, premiers four years ago are playing first time grand finalists PINT on the biggest say of the women’s football calendar.
Buffettes captain Kylie Duggan said the momentum gained from the semi-final win two weeks ago had also brought some belief.
“We knew we had what it took to beat them and while, unfortunately, it didn’t happen for us during the season, as a team we match them well across the ground,’’ she said.
“But while we’re confident we have what it takes to win this time, we know it will be a tough day regardless, all of our games have been close.
“That means we all have to be on our ‘A’ game and every player is looking forward to making that happen.’’
Duggan said the come-from-behind win in the semi-final has created positives.
“Mostly we’ve been able to prepare a bit better for the grand final and our bodies are fresh,’’ she said.
The Buffettes backline was a major factor in the semi-final win, with Talia Corrie and Jemma Iacono standouts.
“Our backs have been great with Bianca Stokes at fullback, Talia Corrie in a pocket and Jemma (Iacono) at centre half-back where she reads the play so well,’’ Duggan added.
“Dom Carbone, Kiera Kurnoth and Lucy Adams in the middle have been very good and Molly Althouse and Tania Dhu in the ruck are playing some great footy.’’
