‘They don’t give a s***’: Jordan Thompson blows up at organisers

Australian tennis player Jordan Thompson has been left fuming as he took aim at US Open organisers in a fiery tirade on Friday.

Thompson STUNS, Kokkinakis bows out

Jordan Thompson means business at the US Open.

The unseeded Aussie is on the war path and flushing meadows and he sent a devastating message to his rivals on Friday (AEST).

Going up against the seventh seeded Hubert Hurkacz, not many had the 30-year-old from Sydney going any further in New York.

But Thompson wasn’t paying attention as he produced the biggest grand slam win of his career and did it in ruthless fashion.

The Polish star never stood a chance as Thompson secured the 7-6, 6-1, 7-5 victory to book a spot in the third round of the US Open for only the second time.

It took less than two and a half hours for the Aussie to move on and send one of the top ranked players packing.

“That was pretty special,” Thompson told Stan Sport after recording his first top-10 victory at a major tournament.

“Nice crowd, tough conditions and playing a top-10 opponent. I don’t think I could have played much better.”

The win however didn’t come without a bit of controversy with the Aussie star taking aim at the schedule makers.

Thompson and fellow Aussie Chris O’Connell have the same coach, but both men were scheduled to play their second round matches at the same time.

It left Marinko Matosevic in an difficult position with the coach sitting in the box for O’Connell while Lleyton Hewitt took on the role for Thompson’s match.

While it worked out for both men in the end, Thompson was left fuming and didn’t bite his tongue when addressing the matter.

“(You can) thank the schedule makers for that one,” he said.

“I mean, we have only been working together, and are the only two who have shared a coach, for 20 months, so maybe (Marinko) should have said it again, but he shouldn’t need to say it again. Luckily I had Rusty (Hewitt) there.

“It’s happened a few times. They just don’t seem to give a s***. Too good. We just have to clap the ATP for that one, or whoever makes the schedule. It’s happened like four or five times. They should be (aware) but it feels like they just don’t care.”

Aussies taking control in New York

While Thompson produced the monster second round upset, he’s being joined in the third round by a host of fellow Aussies.

Alexei Popyrin continued his stellar form with a straight sets victory over Pedro Martinez, the win locks him into a third round battle against world number two Novak Djokovic.

At the other end of the draw Chris O’Connell set up a third round matchup with world number one Jannik Sinner after defeating Italy’s Mattia Bellucci in four sets.

Top ranked Aussie Alex de Minaur made light work of his second round opponent as he breezed through in straight sets.

Arguably the biggest surprise packet of the lot however is wildcard entrant Tristan Schoolkate who is on the brink of a third round spot.

The 23-year-old is going up against Jakub Mensik and has taken the first two sets with one more to lock away a clash against Nuno Borges who stopped what could have been an all-Aussie encounter as he knocked out Thanasi Kokkinakis.
