STRONG midfield performances and 10 goals from forward Michael ‘Juice’ Newton saw Waratah to a heavy 28.17 (185) to 6.8 (44) win over Tiwi Bombers at Gardens Oval.

Tiwi came looking for redemption after a heavy loss to Wanderers and it was that fire that saw them bring the intensity early on, giving the Bombers their first goal

It took a little longer for Waratah, lacking some of their X-factor players due to representative footy commitments, but once they got going they didn’t look back.

Kim Kantilla grabbed the first Tahs’ goal, and his first of five, breaking a run of behinds for the red-and-whites, chipping through the uprights under pressure.

And Tahs didn’t look back from there with Will Collis contributing a big score from outside the forward 50 to see his side with five goals from the opening period.

Tiwi captain Paddy Heenan found himself with chances early in the second, but wayward kicks out of hand would see him unable to bag a goal.

Those missed chances gave Waratah a chance to go on the offence themselves and Newton was the benefactor with consecutive goals.

Then the floodgates opened for Tahs, with their fitness and strength in the midfield solidifying their lead.

Cameron Arnold, Jae McGrath and Henry Kerinaiua laid on the scoring alongside Kantilla and Newton to put the game out of question.

A massive mark for Newton in the lead-up to his seventh goal of the evening got the Gardens Oval crowd on their feet and it was one the forward looked back on proudly.

“Good to get another win on the board and it’s always an honour to play against these boys from Tiwi,” Newton told the NT News.

“For me personally it’s just good to get out and play another game of footy and the boys are travelling pretty well at the moment.

“They came out pretty hard and showed a lot of fight early but we just go on top of them winning the ball through the midfield and getting that space in the inside 50.

“It was good to be able to finish that work as last time I came up I didn’t have the kicking boots on but it was good to reward all the hard work from our midfielders.

“(On the massive mark) I don’t often get off the ground like I used to but that was one of those lucky things. I jumped and it stuck so it was good.”

Perhaps equally pleasing for the Bombers was Heenan finally scoring a goal of his own after his personal streak of behinds to gather a consolation score for his efforts.

And while further efforts would come from Tiwi late in the game it was not enough to stop the finals-bound Waratah.
