STAR Nightcliff defender Nathan Brown considers himself one of the lucky ones in the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.
Brown, a tough and inspirational leader at the Tigers, also runs his own plastering business.
But he hasn’t felt any major financial ramifications in his line of work, with tens of thousands of Australians stood down due to health concerns.
“I’m not really seeing any problems, we’re still seeing work here and so we should be all right,” Brown told the NT News.
“I’m rather lucky to be living up here (in Darwin) where there are a lot less cases. But it has been a little tough for some of the Nightcliff guys, particularly those who paid to go back down south.”
Meanwhile, Brown (pictured) believes his Tigers’ back-to-back NTFL title triumph last month was just the start of a dynasty for the side. Brown helped Nightcliff to a 13-point victory over St Mary’s in the 2019-20 grand final, which secured the club its second premiership in as many seasons.
“It was amazing to be a part of, and particularly rewarding for me to see this after being at Nightcliff for the last eight years,” Brown said.
“It was a good four-quarter effort from everyone where we stuck to our structures. But it all comes down to hard work. We trained really hard going into that game.”
The NTFL veteran was full of praise for fellow defender Kaine Riley and Nichols medal winner Brodie Filo.
“Kaine Riley had an amazing season and Filo also had another great season, those are the type of guys that really stood out to me all year,” Brown said.
“We were lucky to have been able to play and win on our terms rather than by default. We were top of the table heading into finals so it might have gone our way but actually winning was better.
“Hopefully we’re making that dynasty where I can see us winning a few more flags.
“There are a lot of guys who I’m hearing want to come up here to play and so I think this year (2020-21 season) will be one of the best NTFL seasons.”
