PINTS capped off a dominant Darwin Netball season with a tight 30-25 win over Nightcliff Tigers in the 2020 Premier League grand final.A late third-quarter surge – inspired by a best-on-court performance from star Gold Coast Suns and PINT footballer Jasmyn Hewett – got the green team home.

PINTS capped off a dominant Darwin Netball season with a tight 30-25 win over Nightcliff Tigers in the 2020 Premier League grand final.

Nightcliff had been the only side to trouble the minor premiers through the season giving Pints their sole loss, while their last encounter ended in a tie.

So a tight encounter was expected once again when the two met for the grand final and it did not disappoint.

Pints came out with intensity scoring the opening two goals through Ashlee Singleton but the Tigers were quick to retaliate.

Nightcliff’s shooting pair of Megan Craufurd and Johanna Hampton pushed their side into the lead off the back of their strong defenders Katie Elmer and Krissie Smith.

Nightcliff would remain ahead for the majority of the match seeing off any Pints comeback with points of their own.

But a late third quarter surge inspired by a best-on-court performance from Pints’ Jasmyn Hewett backed by Bethany Williams saw the sides head into the final period level.

The Tigers took the early lead in the final period and it looked like it would be third time lucky for the side that finished runner-up in 2018 and 2019.

But another Pints surge with Elizabeth Paice moving the ball swiftly from centre court would see the minor premiers settle into a scoring rhythm and climb to a five-point lead to seal the premiership.
