ST MARY’S Division two coach Allen May has been suspended for two weeks following his sides controversial three-quarter time walk off.

Allen appeared before the NTFL tribunal on Wednesday night facing a charge of misconduct/serious misconduct from the incident against Waratahs on November 14.

A statement from the NTFL said: “Upon review of the evidence, the Tribunal asserted May’s conduct constituted misconduct to which May pleaded guilty.

“The Tribunal issued May with a two-match suspension, with one week wholly suspended.”

The Saints trailed Waratahs by 81 points when they called time on the game at the break and left the field in apparent protest of the umpiring.

At the time Tahs were leading by 81 points over the St Mary’s contingent who called time on the game at the break and left the field in apparent protest of the umpiring.

Waratah later released a statement claiming that no Waratah player was sent off or penalised for foul play, though a number of 50 metre penalties were paid against the Saints for continual abuse of umpires.

At the time St Mary’s president Marius Clarke told the NT News that no official comment could be made by the club while the incident was being investigated.

Though 11-time St Mary’s Premier League coach John Taylor declared the walk-off against the spirit of the game.

“Everyone gets disappointed from time to time, but a walk off is fairly drastic and it’s something I’ve never seen or been involved in,” Taylor told the NT News.

“If you are unhappy at the end of the game you put in a protest through the proper channels and the fact they don’t seem to have done that is disappointing.

“I don’t care if it’s St Mary’s, Wanderers, Waratah or anybody, the rules apply to everybody and you’re obligated to operate within the rules.

“We all get upset with umpires from time to time and people get upset with players, it’s part and parcel of sport.’

“If you do that sort of thing the majority of people are going to say you are a sooky la-la and to get over it and get on with it.”
