Exciting program changes have been revealed for next year’s Chariots of Thunder Speedway event that will turbocharge the action.

Recording nearly 17,000 attendees and $10.3 million generated in total expenditure, NT’s sprintcars night of nights is in high demand.

A revised three-day format set to run from September 12-14, at Darwin’s Northline Speedway, the Mitchell Street Motorcade and Fan Appreciation Night will be combined into one jam-packed afternoon.

On the track, a revised two-heat format, the introduction of passing points, first place feature prizes each night and a showcase of the sport’s peak sprintcars will shift the action into overdrive.

“People travel from all over Australia to take part, and nominations sell out quickly as demand is so high,” Northern Territory Major Events Company chief executive Suzana Bishop said.

“Independent research shows the 2023 event generated more than 38,000 visitor nights

across the NT, and as it’s a massive driver of interstate visitation, Chariots is great news for our tourism and hospitality sectors.”

With changes to the event in response to extensive feedback and consultation following 2023’s edition, Northline Speedway President Caleb Gotts is expecting 2024 to be the biggest spectacle yet.

“Chariots of Thunder is the biggest weekend of motorsport action for sprintcar drivers in the

Northern Territory, and it keeps getting bigger each year,” he said.

“Next year’s program features more sprintcar racing than ever and provides an opportunity for aspiring junior competitors to participate in a high-profile event, and our local drivers to gain exposure to national level competitive racing right here in Darwin.

“Our revised three-day format also gives more competitors the chance to snap up prizes on

each night and compete for a share of $130,000.”

Tickets go on sale and nominations open Friday at 8am.
