CHAMPION young jockey Chad Schofield has escaped major injury.
Last year’s Cox Plate winner when still an apprentice crashed to the turf during the Breisis Cup at Geelong on Sunday and was taken to Geelong Hospital with suspected fractures of both arms.
However the Victorian Jockeys Association reported this morning that the 20-year-old may not be sidelined for the summer as first expected.
“He has a deep wound above his elbow and scans revealed what can be described as two ‘minor’ fractures in lower back. Sitting up and comfortable,” reported Des O’Keeffe.
Schofield, who has been in outstanding form, began a 12 meeting suspension today.
Details of his pending release from hospital are yet to be confirmed but the young hoop is expected to be out of action for up to six weeks following an operation on his arm wound.
