VICTORIAN trainer Neil Dyer will bring some good vibes to Monday’s Darwin Cup after Carlingford’s win in the $40,000 Darwin Corporate Park Cup (1300m) at Fannie Bay on Wednesday.
The seven-year-old veteran (jockey Stan Tsaikos) edged out Gary Clarke’s Syncline (Jarrod Todd) on the line.
Not a bad result for a horse Dyer brought to Darwin to see how he would go in a Cup Carnival race.

“I’ve been training the horse with a mate from Kyneton, Mick Sell, and we’ve brought it up here to give it a go so this was a good result for both of us,” Dyer said.
“We knew he would tough it out and Stan Tsaikos is great in that role.
“He is hard and tough in a finish like that.
“And the horse has got plenty of guts so we are rapt for both of them.
“We’ve known he’s had it in him, he’s ridden in Kyneton and had three place finishes in the Melbourne area this preparation.”
Dyer – the 2017 Darwin Cup winner with Royal Request – is now starting to focus on this year’s edition on Monday.
“Our main Cup hope is Kaonic who’s running on Monday,” he said. “The barriers (draws) are on Thursday but he’s a get back horse so the barriers won’t concern him.”
Kaonic ran an improved seventh in the $50,000 Metric Mile last Saturday, just under three lengths behind Terry Gillett’s winner That’s Justified.
Other winning horses on Wednesday were Tugga War (jockey Todd), Another Bit (Adam Nicholls) and Shenanigan City (Todd) all for Clarke, and Nashwah (trainer Phil Cole, jockey Sairyn Fawke).
