NO magic tricks were required from stayer Saturday Sorcerer as he ran his rivals off their legs to claim the Darwin Cup at Fannie Bay.
Trained at Morphettville by Stuart Gower, Saturday Sorcerer did it the hard way, leading from start to finish to prevail in yesterday’s $200,000 feature.
He jumped straight to the front under the urgings of jockey Paul Denton, while having to cope with the pressure applied by Cantonese, who sat just outside him throughout.
The pair cleared out from the rest of the field on the turn and once Saturday Sorcerer beat his rival off, he was left to hang on — the finishing line coming just before he would’ve been swallowed up by the fast-finishing Pretty Blonde.
