APPRENTICE jockey Alice Lindsay has moved from South Australia to chase her racing dreams in Darwin, linking up with celebrated trainer Phil Cole

APPRENTICE jockey Alice Lindsay has moved from South Australia to chase her racing dreams in Darwin, linking up with celebrated trainer Phil Cole.

The 27-year-old has never been to the Top End before, but has embraced the opportunity with open arms and is already gearing up for a couple of races on Darwin Cup Day.

However her first taste of Darwin racing action will come on Derby day where she will see action throughout the day.

“I’m so excited. I’ve never actually been up to Darwin before but it’s a great opportunity for me,” Lindsay told the NT News.

“Phil was real keen to get me up. I had never spoken to him before but I put my case forward and he said yes.

“As an apprentice I still have a 3kg claim and there will be more quality opportunities to use that claim in the NT where there aren’t as many jockeys and it will be appealing to trainers.”

Lindsay’s initial plans are to stay in the Territory for at least 12 months. She has a record of 40 wins since her career began in 2017.

Lindsay’s biggest win came aboard Aldolphin in the Port Augusta Cup (2300m) in 2018.

Now she is looking forward to furthering her career in the NT where she will be on the hunt for more wins in an environment where she will be able to secure more frequent racing chances.

“Phil has a large stable and he’s a successful trainer, so it’s a great opportunity for me to grab,” Lindsay said.

“I’m not too familiar with his horses yet.

“But I’m really looking forward to getting to know them all while I’m up here.

“The weather is also beautiful up here.

“I’m looking forward to that.”
