Magic Millions 2YO Classic 2015: Promising filly Perignon leads Gerald Ryan’s MM charge

GERALD Ryan’s Magic Millions raiding party is gathering force with filly Perignon leading the stable’s attack on the glamour Gold Coast carnival.

TRAINER Gerald Ryan’s Magic Millions raiding party is gathering force, and promising filly Perignon is leading the stable’s attack on the glamour Gold Coast carnival.

Perignon raced into $2 million Magic Millions Classic contention with her powerful Canterbury win on Saturday.

She joins last-start Wyong Magic Millions winner Aerobar ($1 million MM 3YO Guineas) and talented sprinter Dothraki ($400,000 MM Cup) as Ryan’s big-race hopes for the Gold Coast meeting on January 10.

And Ryan, who is Sydney racing’s form trainer this summer with 11 winners from his last 38 runners, is hoping to add to that team when Brazen Moss attempts to break his maiden at Royal Randwick on Thursday.

“Brazen Moss has been placed in six of his eight starts,’’ Ryan said,

“Although he hasn’t won a race yet, he is fifth favourite for a $1 million race (MM Guineas).

“This tells me there is not a lot of depth to the Guineas and he could go up for either that race or the (MM) Maiden if he runs well on Thursday.’’

Perignon was the big firmer in Magic Millions 2yo Classic betting after her fast-finishing Canterbury win.

Her odds were slashed from $15 to $7.50 with TAB Fixed Odds behind easing favourite Wicked Intent ($5.50).

Ryan said Perignon had come through Saturday’s race in very good order, her win securing a Magic Millions start.

“She doesn’t have brilliant gate speed so she has got back in her first two starts,’’ Ryan said.

“But Brenton (Avdulla) told me he felt the filly could have settled about fifth or sixth in her Canterbury race if she had drawn better, so the barrier draw for the Magic Millions will be crucial.’’

Perignon was the first leg of a winning double for the Ryan stable at Canterbury, Peace Force scoring her third city win in succession later in the ­meeting.

Ryan very nearly had four winners but Inz’n’Out was run down in the final stride, while Dothraki missed the start then rallied late for a close third to Barbed in the Canterbury Classic.

“Dothraki jumped up in the air and landed flat-footed as the gates opened,’’ Ryan said.

Peace Force has had an extended campaign but is maintaining form and will be given her chance at stakes level in the Belle of the Turf Stakes at Gosford next week.

Inz’n’Out was narrowly beaten by the in-form Music Magnate but Ryan has big plans for his lightly raced three-year-old colt.

“I might give him one more run then ease up and get him ready for a race like the Eskimo Prince Stakes,’’ Ryan said.

“He’s a good little horse. He ran better time in his final 600m than they did in the open sprint.’’
