TWO of Victoria’s most talented and in-form young jockeys have been suspended following indiscretions at Friday night’s Moonee Valley meeting.
Chad Schofield’s repeated visits to the stewards’ room continued when he was suspended for 12 meetings from Sunday night until December 19.
And apprentice Patrick Moloney also was found guilty of careless riding and suspended for nine meetings.
Schofield, who has been in sparkling form, pleaded guilty to the charge that, after receiving contact on House Of Stars from Nicamorae near the 600m, he placed unnecessary pressure on Nicamorae “for some distance” in an attempt to shift that runner back in towards a three wide position and hampering that horse.
He will miss four metropolitan and eight provincial meetings.
In assessing penalty the stewards took into account the jockey’s guilty plea and that the carelessness was in the mid-range, and also that the contact was initiated by Nicamorae.
Moloney (Last Sight) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding when, near the 900m, he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of Hunting Hill which had to be restrained.
Moloney had his licence suspended from midnight tonight and can resume on December 15, which means he will miss three metropolitan and six provincial meeting. Stewards assessed the carelessness in the low range.
