REIGNING Women’s Premier League premier Southern Districts grabbed its first points of the 2020-21 NTFL season with a come-from-behind draw against Waratah.

The grand final rematch at Norbuilt Oval was a tough, no-nonsense clash with Tahs playing their way to a 14-point lead at halftime before a last quarter surge by Districts tied the scores.

Districts coach Tarmon Elliott was a relieved man after his side came from 13 points down at three quarter time to share the match points with both sides kicking 4.4 (28).

Ebony Miller and Samantha Hoogeveen-Hill were outstanding for Districts.

“There were definite signs of improvement there and although it was a shame we didn’t get the win, it was a lot better effort from everybody,’’ he said.

“We weren’t quite clean enough to get way with a win, but I thought we showed enough good signs to look forward to the next couple of weeks.’’

Nightcliff continued its resurgence, beating a determined Wanderers by 19 points after trailing by two points at the last change.

Eliza Wear and Hanna Turnbull down back and Laura De Hommel through the middle were the Tigers’ best in their third straight win.

The Tigers’ strong start to the new season has not surprised coach Shannon Millar.

“The girls are playing as a team and there’s no complacency there, we know we have to work hard in what is a week by week approach from us,’’ she said.

PINT midfielder Cassie Henderson continued her strong start to the season with another best on ground performance in the Queenants’ 44-point win over Palmerston.

Jasmyn Hewett in the ruck and Kristen Smits in a utility role after replacing injured skipper Katie Streader were other good players in the win.

St Mary’s recorded one of their best wins for some time when they beat the Darwin Buffettes by 10 points.

Midfielder Megan Williamson and defenders Alana Coombes and Ashlea Melnikas were Saints’ best after they restricted their opponents to a single goal for the first three quarters before the Buffettes came back in the last.
