The Parramatta Eels are heading to the Top End once again in 2024 where they will host the NRL’s newest side, the Dolphins, at TIO Stadium.
The April 19 match will be a blockbuster clash between two sides who will be hunting some finals footy at the tail end of the season.
It comes after the 2023 Darwin fixture between the Eels and Brisbane Broncos was a sell-out event.
A number of community engagement events will take place while the teams are in Darwin, with fans from across the country expected to head north for the spectacle.
Chief Minister Natasha Fyles said the match between the Territory Eels and Dolphins put the Top End on the map for NRL fans.
“The Premiership match puts the Territory on the map with fans travelling to see their beloved team,” she said.
“While here they can explore the Top End and further afield, with Parrtjima taking place in the Red Centre from April 12.
“The game is also an opportunity for locals to see elite-level sport in action right here at home, and for Darwin and its surrounds to be beamed onto TV screens around the country.
“While in the Territory the NRL teams get involved in the community, providing opportunities for local sports fans to learn skills from the professionals and meet their sporting heroes.”
Parramatta Eels chief executive Jim Sarantinos said after a decade of playing in Darwin it felt like a real home away from home.
“It’s one of the trips that our playing squad looks forward to the most each season,” he said.
“We have built some great connections and relationships in the NT, among the most special have been with the community and our fans. We’re really looking forward to seeing them again.”
The Eels vs Dolphins match forms part of the Northern Territory Government’s partnership with the Parramatta Eels, which began in 2014.
