An $8m two-stage redevelopment of Palmerston Golf and Country Club is planned to be completed in time for the annual Northern Territory PGA event in August.

The redevelopment includes a new “international standard” 18-hole mini golf course, pro shop, function and community room for up to 100 people, cafe and an additional 80 carparking spaces under stage one at one of the Territory’s premier courses.

Stage one works, which have already begun, are expected to be completed by February, depending on the weather.

The club’s general manager Matthew Hewer said the revamp would also include a major upgrade of the existing clubhouse to meet increasing demands for its services, under stage two.

“We are going to essentially double the size of the club,” Hewer said.

“Due to the huge popularity of the venue, we have outgrown our current footprint.

The existing restaurant will also increase in size to seat about 200 patrons with a new indoor area, plus a sports bar and beer garden with a 5m x 2m LED screen and an extension to its gaming section.

Hewer said the upgrade would both consolidate and modernise the facilities.

“It’s going to be a major transformation and hopefully set the property up for the next 25 to 30 years,” he said.

“The club has been operating for over 30 years now, and it’s had various minor renovations over those years.

“These renovations will further cement the Palmerston Golf and Country Club’s place as a favourite destination in the greater Palmerston area.”

Hewer expected all works to be completed by the end of the dry season.

However, its annual PGA event in August could be run even if construction is ongoing, he said.

Hewer estimated the works would equate to 20-25 ongoing jobs at the club.
