It should have been the best week of Newcastle gun Jacob Saifiti’s NRL career — instead he has a date in court.

Knights star Jacob Saifiti is supposed to be celebrating the best week of his footy career, named as Newcastle’s player-of-the-year.

Instead he is heading to court in the latest legal instalment of a fight in a pub three years ago.

The brother of Sydney Roosters legend Boyd Cordner has launched legal action against the Newcastle Knights forward and twin brother of NSW Origin prop Daniel Saifiti.

Dane Cordner will appear in a Newcastle court this week to launch a statement of claim against the 25-year-old forward.

Originally Cordner was charged with reckless grievous bodily harm for striking Saifiti outside a Newcastle hotel in December 2018. Saifiti fell and broke his ankle.

However Cordner pleaded not guilty on the grounds of self-defence and the charges were dismissed. The new case is listed for Tuesday in Newcastle Civil Court.

BUNNIES CHEER NFL STAR MAILATA

The Rabbitohs have enjoyed their weekend off by lapping up the start of the NFL season in their breaks from training.

Our spies tell us Fantasy Football has been the talk of the team, with more than a few Bunnies selecting ex-junior teammate Jordan Mailata in their team.

Mailata starred in the Philadelphia Eagles’ week-one victory over Atlanta, justifying his newly minted pay cheque.

Adam Reynolds was spotted receiving a batch of the new NBA 2K22 game. How times have changed. Back in the old days a week off would have meant three days at the pub.

PEARCE’S NRL FUTURE ON HOLD

Knights halfback Mitchell Pearce is still coming to terms with their loss to Parramatta last week. It’s why he won’t be making any rash decisions on his playing future.

Pearce has attracted interest from Catalans in the UK Super League but given how hard he has taken the loss, it is difficult to see him not backing up for the Knights next year in the hope of bringing a premiership back to the Hunter.
