Sharks forward Toby Rudolf has been sent a formal warning from the NRL for his comments that have reached an estimated audience of 10 million.
Rudolf conducted a Fox Sports interview after the Sharks beat St George-Illawarra last Sunday night with his candid responses prompting a polarising reaction.
Rudolf said he would “have 1000 beers, go to Northies and try and pull something — anything will do” when asked by Fox panellist Bryan Fletcher of the Sharks forward’s post-match plans.
Rudolf lightheartedly clarified his response by adding, “nah, honestly, it’s all about recovery these days, I’ll be straight in the ice bath.”
The Sharks social media team have the ability to track social media engagement with Rudolf’s video reaching in the vicinity of 10 million.
However, NRL CEO Andrew Abdo has reacted to the comments with a dim view.
Abdo sent a letter of concern to the Sharks on Tuesday morning, which outlined the code’s belief that the comments were inappropriate.
Abdo told AAP “respect for women is one of the foundations of our society and our players, as role models, need to be leaders in this area.’’
The Sharks have also counselled Rudolf about the comments and his role within the community.
