FORMER Test cricketer Nathan Bracken has quit as an ambassador for the Parramatta Eels and is threatening to sue the NRL club after his sister-in-law was rejected by the team’s cheerleading squad.
Bracken, who also once sued Cricket Australia for long-term damage caused by knee injuries, made a number of unsubstantiated accusations against the club and the cheerleading audition process after Tersha Rich, the sister of his wife Hayley Bracken, was knocked out in the first round of auditions for the new-look cheer squad.
The audition was held in front of several Parramatta officials, who say the accusations that the process was unfair and biased against Rich were “absolute rubbish”.
“In 2016, the club obtained the services of the leading NRL cheerleading coach with more than 20 years experience,” a club spokesperson told The Daily Telegraph.
“The standard of participants at the auditions were substantially higher than previous years.
“The claims made post the auditions were investigated and found to be unsubstantiated. We are disappointed that the Brackens have decided to end their association over this matter.”
The cheerleading coach is Monique Carroll, wife of league legend Spudd Carroll, who also coaches the best cheer squad in the NRL at Manly.
She has been brought to Parramatta to transform the Eels girls into a formidable dance troupe, and has been working through the night to put the finishing touches to the girls’ schmick new uniforms.
Rich certainly has the looks, being a former Miss Teen Australia and a finalist in the Miss Indy 2010 competition on the Gold Coast.
But her dancing may perhaps be letting let her down because after the Eels disappointment she tried her hand at Penrith, where she was also told she was out of luck.
