THE NRL Integrity Unit is monitoring the Bulldogs’ response to the first scandal of the new season — the drink driving charge against talented centre Jacob Loko.
Loko is in strife after recording a blood-alcohol level almost four times the legal limit in the early hours of Friday morning.
The Bulldogs have issued a strongly-worded statement over the incident, promising action to be taken against the former Eels outside back.
The NRL has yet to formally get involved in the affair — but that could change should they feel the Bulldogs are too lenient with Loko.
“The Integrity Unit has been made aware of the incident,” an NRL spokesman told the Sunday Telegraph.
“Right now it is a matter for the Bulldogs to deal with. We will only become involved if necessary.”
Loko has been scheduled to appear in Manly Local Court on February 26.
Ironically, the hard-running centre has yet to play a first grade game for the Bulldogs after joining the club midway through last season.
Loko has been plagued by knee injuries in recent seasons and has played just 23 NRL games — all for Parramatta — since making his debut in 2011.
