WITH just two weeks to go till the first bye round, reigning SuperCoach NRL — presented by hipages — champion Sam Rohlf has his eye on a player who has just had a change of role in his team, and is close to rock bottom price.

TE MAIRE MARTIN (5/8, HFB $182,300)

Each week I will add a player to our Watch List which is available in the My Team Tracker on the home page of SuperCoach NRL — presented by

Two rounds to go now before the first of the bye rounds take effect, and I will focus on another player who has just had a change of role in his team, and is close to rock bottom price.

This week’s player is New Zealand born Te Maire Martin from the North Queensland Cowboys.

The player known as ‘T’ to his teammates and as ‘TMM’ to us SuperCoach tragics, was a big winner with Michael Morgan’s move to fullback in round 11.

Martin would have been playing round 13 anyway with Morgan on expected Origin commitments, but it’s nice to have another cheap downgrade option in our halves, especially one who wasn’t really on the radar until last weekend.

Martin is a Turangawaewae junior, who played 50 games of NYC for West Tigers between 2014-2015. A star of the competition in his two years, with 60 try assists and 65 line breaks, Martin was also selected twice for the NYC team of the year, and the Junior Kiwis.

‘TMM’ had a change of clubs to the Penrith Panthers in 2016 and made his NRL debut in a round 3 win over the Broncos 23-22. He scored a try and kicked the winning field goal. SuperCoach wise, that was his highest score (90 points) of the 6 games he would play in 2016 before a season ending shoulder injury in round 8. Martin finished with a total of 298 points at a PPG average of 50.

Martin played in 15 premiership matches for two clubs in 2017. Playing 7 games for Penrith (55PPG) and then 8 games for the Cowboys (42PPG) for whom he made his debut in round 17.

‘TMM’ may have created some sort of SuperCoach history by not only equalling his season high score (73 points) but for doing it at two different clubs in the same season, (Penrith round 5 and Cowboys round 17).

Overall, he finished with a SuperCoach season total of 728 points at a 49PPG average.

So far in 2018, Martin has played in 11 premiership matches for the Cowboys. He has only put together a total of 200 points at an average of 18PPG.

Of those 11 appearances, TMM has only three 80 minute games with scores of 45 points (round 1), 22 points (round 2) and 25 points (round 11), for an average of 30PPG.

It doesn’t scream buy me, but Martin has played in 23, full 80 minute games over his three years in the top grade, and has a total of 1,101 points at an average of 47PPG. This week you will be available to grab Martin for just under $190,000 and he will have a nice low break even to come with him.

Normally I would just add to my Watch List, but Martin might come straight in this week, possibly alongside AJ Brimson.
