FORMER SuperCoach NRL — presented by hipages — champion Dave Von Kotze reveals this week’s best point-of-difference targets with an eye towards the round 17 bye.
1. Cameron McInnes ($598,400/4.3 per cent ownership)
For those looking for a round 17 hooker McInnes’s SuperCoach form has been solid, scoring over 50 in each of his past seven games and sporting very decent three and five-game averages of 67 and 69 respectively. With less than five per cent ownership and a favourable run against the Bulldogs (a), Manly (h) and the Eels (h) McInnes could serve owners well over the next month.
2. Daniel Alvaro ($511,500/2.3 per cent ownership)
Alvaro has played extended minutes over the past two rounds, playing 55 minutes and then 62 minutes last weekend for scores of 73 and 82. Even more impressive is the fact that he has averaged 70 in base during those games. He has scored his points with a very economical PPM of 1.3 this season so if he maintains these minutes there is plenty of room for growth. He has a break-even of 22.
3. Jesse Ramien ($528,600/4 per cent ownership)
Ramien has been in beast mode recently, scoring four tries in his past three matches to sit with a beautiful three-game average of 82. Even though he has a break-even of four, and very low ownership, if the tries start to dry up those who invest may end up wasting precious trades. He also won’t cover round 17 so probably best to steer clear unless fighting for head-to-head glory.
4. Tohu Harris ($500,200/11.3 per cent ownership)
Harris will become one of the main trade-in targets over the next month not only because he has proven pedigree but mainly due to the fact that he will cover round 17. SuperCoach Stats shows us that the return of Shaun Johnson this week will benefit Harris who has maintained a six-game average of 67.5 with Johnson in the side controlling the right-side attack and a four-game average of 55 (not including his injury affected 14 in round seven) without the star playmaker. Potential owners will need to make sure they are able to cover Harris in round 16 should he be rested after New Zealand’s Test in Denver.
5. Shaun Johnson ($644,800/16.5 per cent ownership)
The great SJ returns this week and even though he is just out of POD range with 16 per cent ownership, he will be of high priority to most SuperCoaches going forward. Johnson has been streets ahead of all other halves this year with dual HFB/5/8 positioning, only scoring under 74 once in his six games while holding together a superb season average of 73. Similar to the above-mentioned Harris, those who pull the trigger in the next few weeks will need to expect that he will be unavailable during round 16 if he plays against England in the Denver Test match.
6. James Graham ($379,000/4.8 per cent ownership)
Graham may be a controversial selection with his season average of 40 but hear me out for a second. With Frizell, Vaughan and De Belin all involved with the Blues, someone will have to take up the slack when the Dragons play the Storm during round 17. He is only one for the watch list at this point but it may be worth keeping an eye on his minutes over the next few weeks and see if they increase during the representative period. He has only averaged 48 minutes a game so far this season. However, in the two games in which he has played 61 minutes he has posted scores of 65 and 53 so if he was to play 60 minutes during round 17, he would provide valuable points and then remain in your squad as back-up should injuries hit for the remainder of the season.
7. Jaydn Su’A ($458,300/2.5 per cent ownership)
Su’A has played the full 80 in four of his past five matches and is looking very comfortable on the right edge for the Broncos, donning a three-game average of 65. If Matt Gillett was to return early from injury that would throw a spanner in the works but Su’A has a break-even of 24 and has averaged 51 points in base during his past three matches.
LISTEN!!! Tom Sangster, Rob Sutherland and Tim Williams have the big news and views heading into round 14.
8. John Sutton ($534,100/2.6 per cent ownership)
Sutton is a smoky who has been showing strong SuperCoach form recently, averaging 66 in his past four games. Even though it appears as if he has found some form on the left edge for the in-form Rabbitohs he should only be considered by head-to-head or draft players looking for a POD, especially over the next few rounds where he will take on the Titans and the Eels. He will start this weekend with a break-even of 35.
9. Nick Cotric ($501,300/3.7 per cent ownership)
Five tries in his past four games has set this young gun up to make a decent chunk of cash over the next few weeks. Spending the week in the Blues camp, Cotric will return for the Raiders full of confidence and will more than likely be available for selection during round 17 unless Addo-Carr has a stinker in the second Origin match. Starting with a break-even of -17 this round, if Cotric can pump out two scores of 60 over the next two rounds he will make around $90,000 for owners.
10. Euan Aitken ($496,900/9.3 per cent ownership)
Aitken has a break-even of 100 this week so there is no hurry to bring him in just yet but he should definitely be one to keep an eye on as we head towards round 17. He has been well contained recently with a current three-game average of 38 but he is known for his ability to post strong base stats and opened the season with a six-game average of 63. He is certainly one to consider at some point in the next month as he will play two of his next three games at home and then will take on the Storm during round 17 who he scored 104 points against in round nine.
