Yes, Origin selections have robbed SuperCoaches of a host of stars this week including Dylan Edwards, J’Maine Hopgood, Zac Lomax and Matt Burton.
But the non-selection of James Tedesco creates a serious SuperCoach purchase, while snubbed stars Latrell Mitchell and David Fifita may emerge as great buys from round 14.
SUPERCOACH LOSERS FROM ORIGIN SELECTIONS
* Dylan Edwards - We were always told it was a 50-50 call between Edwards and Teddy for the Blues and Edwards has won out. Huge blow for the 20 per cent who own the best player in SuperCoach because Edwards would have been available this week. That said, he has the best schedule of any Origin player and is a hold.
* J’Maine Hopgood - Named in the Queensland 17 and almost 20,000 SuperCoaches therefore have one less player this week. Misses at least 4/8 rounds if he plays the full series, not including back-ups.
* Zac Lomax - Somewhat of a shock selection on the wing for the Blues. To put in SuperCoach terms, the guy with the third most points of any SuperCoach player won’t be available this week. Misses 4/8 if he retains his NSW spot.
* Matt Burton - Named 18th man for the Blues and therefore won’t be released for the Bulldogs this weekend (although 19th and 20th men will). He now misses 4/8 weeks at a minimum.
* Reece Robson - Named hooker for the Blues. So the guy with the most points of any HOK in SuperCoach this year will likely be no help over round 13 or the other big byes.
* Haumole Olakau’atu - Had the bye this week but a revelation in SuperCoach this season, producing the fifth best average of any 2RF.
* Nicholas Hynes, Payne Haas, Angus Crichton, Isaah Yeo, Reece Walsh, Valentine Holmes, Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow, Harry Grant, Reuben Cotter - We knew these selections were coming so hopefully you planned accordingly.
SUPERCOACH WINNERS FROM ORIGIN SELECTIONS
* James Tedesco - Set to be one of the most purchased players this week after missing NSW selection. Of fullbacks available this round, only Scott Drinkwater averages more.
* Latrell Mitchell - Also snubbed by the Blues. Had the bye this week so it makes no immediate impact, but he’s now a serious purchase to get through the final two big bye rounds in 16 and 19.
* David Fifita - Produced a blinder against the Broncos on Sunday but still failed to lock in a spot. Has the bye this week anyway but great for rounds 16 and 19.
* Api Koroisau - Popular hooker missed selection for the Blues. Has the bye this week but handy for rounds 16 and 19. In fact after this week, he doesn’t have a single bye for the rest of the Origin period.
LOOMING CHEAPIE
* Josiah Karapani (70) - This week’s most popular cheapie produced some questionable defence but also some scintillating attack including a try assist and two linebreaks. Option for round 14, pending the injury to Kotoni Staggs, who is due back in round 14.
KEY INJURIES/OUTS
* Jack Cole (95) – People who jumped on Cole before this round are in for a nice little pay day after the 20-year-old half scored a first-half try. Cole was set to be a key part of the Panthers’ spine through Origin, but suffered a hamstring injury and is in doubt.
* Isaiah Papali’i (24) – Went off with an injury to his ankle in the first half after a hip drop and could miss a few weeks.
* Addin Fonua-Blake (DNP) - Stood down by the Warriors for failing team standards and has the bye this week.
TOP PERFORMERS FROM WEEKEND
* Jacob Kiraz (137) – A workhorse on the wing who added two tries and a try assist to his tally.
* Herbie Farnworth (118) - Herbie’s best game for the Dolphins so far notching a try, try assist, three linebreaks and 10 tackle busts.
* Blaize Talagi (91) – The Eels rookie continues to impress at fullback, scoring a try for the third consecutive game.
* Te Maire Martin (117) - Popular early-season money-maker is still in nine per cent of teams and rewarded owners with a try and two try assists.
* Jamayne Isaako (84) - Not his usual base but scored two tries and two linebreaks.
* Euan Aitken (73) - Pure base including 47 tackles. With dual CTW/2RF positioning and available for all three big byes, he should be in far more than two per cent of teams.
* Keano Kini (129) - The young gun’s best game in the NRL so far. Three try assists and kicked goals.
* Reece Walsh (112) - Brilliant first half but only ran the ball four times in the second. Still produced some big stats including five linebreak assists and two try assists.
* Payne Haas (100) - Notched an early try and got through his usual work including 37 tackles.
* David Fifita (79) - Played centre for much of the game so the work rate was down. But he made up for it with barnstorming attacking, setting up a crucial try and getting a try contribution. Came off late with a HIA.
* Beau Fermor (82) - Popular SuperCoach forward switched to centre on game day due to injuries at the Titans and notched a try and try contribution.
* Joey Manu (97) – Returned from injury and despite hobbling early, recovered strongly to post a double and a big SC score.
* Sam Walker (94) – Controlled things beautifully with a number of try assists to keep his red-hot form intact.
* Liam Henry (85) – Great game from the interchange forward, scoring his first try of the season in his 12th appearance. The 22-year-old who teammates call ‘Horse’ finished with his highest SuperCoach score of the season and is a crucial extra number this week.
* Keaon Koloamatangi (131) – The backrower’s shift to lock looks like a winner with a huge game from the Souths forward. Koloamatangi scored twice but would have finished with a high score anyway.
* Maika Sivo (110) – Two late tries got the powerful Parramatta winger to triple digits in the final minute of the game.
* Damien Cook (91) – Inspiring memories of State of Origin, Cook moved to the centres in the second half when Jack Wighton failed an HIA. The veteran hooker scored a try late when he pounced on Mitchell grubber.
* Jaeman Salmon (80) – Was a SuperCoach favourite at the start of the season and rewarded those who held him with two tries.
WORRYING PERFORMANCES FROM WEEKEND
* Jeremy Marshall-King (47) - Not quite what we were looking for from the guy trumpeted by many as the best replacement for Grant over Origin.
* Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow (39) - Incredibly low score given he scored a try. Base was almost non-existent.
* Ronaldo Mulitalo (19) – It was a tough night for anyone heavily invested in Cronulla’s stars. Mulitalo had 12 at the break and didn’t improve much after that. Mulitalo got one or two late opportunities to find the line but was swarmed by an energetic Panthers defence.
* Kayal Iro (36) – The popular SuperCoach centre was starved of opportunity and could only finish with a sub-par score. It wasn’t terrible from Iro but 82,598 players wanted to see more.
