NRL SuperCoach Play of the Week Round 12 - James Tedesco

FORMER SuperCoach champion Dave Von Kotze lifts the lid on some cheeky PODs to get you through the round 13 bye — presented by hipages.

1/ Lachlan Fitzgibbon ($606,500/ 5.2 per cent ownership)

Fitzgibbon has been the early-season POD of the year so far currently the only player in the top ten highest scorers with under ten per cent ownership.

Whilst bringing him in won’t make too much cash, the fact that he has scored over 75 in five of his last eight games for an eight game average of 70 screams keeper and if SuperCoaches are planning to bring in a POD, they may as well make it a high quality option.

2 / Blake Ferguson ($507,100/ 8.6 per cent ownership)

Fergo at fullback and probably taking the goal-kicking duties will certainly see him come into the plans of many coaches for this first big bye round.

He is currently leading the league for runs as well as total run metres and should see plenty of ball against the Tigers this weekend.

It appears as if he will take the goal kicks as he did last week when Latrell Mitchell was in the sin bin which could mean a few extra points and he could be a handy POD both this weekend and next against the Knights.

Matt Moylan had six try assists against Newcastle.

3 / Matthew Moylan ($450,000/ 1.8 per cent ownership)

Chasing last week’s points? Absolutely and here is why there could be method to the madness of bringing in Moylan.

Firstly, with his horrific 9 points from round 10 now out of his rolling average and his mammoth 134 holding pride and place in that rolling average for the next few weeks, Moylan will step on the field against the Bunnies with a breakeven of -38.

If by chance he was to deliver two scores of 60 over the next two weeks he will increase in value by over $130,000 and give owners around $583,000 to start setting up their round seventeen teams.

Secondly, he has been known to go on some insane SuperCoach runs namely between rounds nine and fourteen last season when he cracked the ton three times in five games for a five-game average of 97.

4/ Aidan Guerra ($464,700/ 2.7 per cent ownership)

Playing at lock in the middle for the last three games has breathed some life into Guerra as a low percentage SuperCoach option.

Even though at first sight his three-game average of 57 isn’t exactly something to crow about, what is impressive is his work rate which has seen him average 50 points a game in base since making the positional switch.

He has a breakeven of 37 so it is unlikely that he would lose money in the next few rounds before being traded in for a round 17 option.

David Nofoaluma is a gun of the past returning to strong form.

5/ David Nofoaluma ($453,300/ 0.9 per cent ownership)

Nofoaluma is starting to show signs of the form that has seen him be a dynamite POD over the last few years.

His three-game average of 62 is impressive and even though this average has benefited nicely from two tries in his last three games his base stats numbers have also been exciting for a winger posting 54, 44 and 52 points in pure base for a three-game average of 50.

He has a tempting breakeven of 23 this round and unbelievably low ownership currently only sitting in just over 1200 teams.

SuperCoach Perfect 8 hits $325,000.

6/ Paul Gallen ($480,400/ 3.1 per cent ownership)

Many SuperCoaches never thought they’d see the day when Paul Gallen was priced at $480,400 and even though SuperCoach has gone mad in 2018, there is no better time to pick him up than this week.

His minutes have definitely been lowered this year and in his two games since returning from a knee injury he has only managed 56 and 41, however, in last week’s game there were eleven tries scored which meant that there was significantly less game time for him to score points.

If potential owners believe he will return to being a 60-65 minute player than he is a steal at his current price.

Manu Ma'u has snuck under the radar of most this season.
Manu Ma'u has snuck under the radar of most this season.

7/ Manu Ma’u ($626,200/ 2.6 per cent ownership)

There are a couple of warning signs that suggest $626,200 is far too much to pay for Ma’u. However it doesn’t seem right to not include the thirteenth highest scoring player in the game with three and five-game averages of 72 and 75 respectively in POD watch this week, especially when he is in less than three per cent of teams.

Since round six, Ma’u has been one of the most consistent and reliable options in the business, not scoring below 60 once for a seven game average of 72, however, until round six with Nathan Brown in the team he only averaged 50 for the first five games of the season.

Brown has made his way onto the extended bench for the Eels and when he returns it could stem the steady flow of points Ma’u has been racking up over the last seven rounds.

8/ Esan Marsters ($534,200/ 17.3 per cent ownership)

Marsters is just out of POD range but SuperCoaches may as well spend their cash wisely on the highest scoring CTW in the game after twelve rounds.

Similar to the above mentioned Fitzgibbon, with a breakeven of 73 the ship has sailed in regards to making money off this trade but he is putting up rock-solid, consistent, keeper numbers with his season, three and five game averages ranging only slightly between 59-61 points and he could be a set and forget option for the remainder of the season.

NRL SuperCoach: Buy, Hold, Sell - Round 13

9 / Josh Dugan ($511,200/ 1.9 per cent ownership)

A scorned Dugan will have a serious point to prove after missing Origin selection and even though he has had a terrible and frustrating run of injuries so far this season, some of his recent stats show that may offer a little more reliability than many give him credit for.

In his last five games he has scored over 60 in four of those matches and after playing the Bunnies this weekend he will play his next two at home against the Tigers and the Broncos. He has a breakeven of 58.

10 / Michael Chee-Kam ($420,100/ 1.4 per cent ownership)

Chee-Kam played the full-eighty on the edge for the Tigers last weekend and produced a solid base-stat performance finishing with 60 points.

If he can hold down his spot there is certainly cash and potential points to be made from this trade. He has a breakeven of 22 and handy 2RF/CTW dual flexibility.
