SuperCoach NRL: Young, Fonua-Blake strike gold, 10 SC Winners and Losers from Raiders vs Warriors

A dominant first half from Hudson Young and big finish by Addin Fonua-Blake has SuperCoaches eyeing off big scores. See the 10 SuperCoach Winners and Losers from Raiders vs Warriors.

That will go down as the loss that will sink the Warriors season.

They blew any chance they had of victory with a shocking missed conversion in the closing stages that effectively ends their season.

New Zealand scored four tries to three, but goalkicking literally proved the difference as they return home with nothing to show for their efforts.

Here are the SuperCoach Winners and Losers from Friday Night Footy:

SUPERCOACH WINNERS

1. Hudson Young (119) – Did his damage in the first half with an incredible 96 points on the back of an early double. A quiet second half, but was still the best score of the night by a huge margin.

2. Addin Fonua-Blake (96) – There’s a reason why he is one of the most popular front rowers in the game. His late try should’ve sent the Warriors to golden point.

3. Mitchell Barnett (93) – Returned from a great Origin debut with an incredible showing, finishing with a try and 73 minutes played in the front row. All heart.

4. Roger Tuivasa-Sheck (71) – Played the majority of the game at fullback and with the leading two options on the sideline, will likely play next week at the back again.

5. Wayde Egan (85) – A try assist and close to 60 tackles capped off another monster effort from the Warriors hooker. Consistently one of their best.

SUPERCOACH LOSERS

1. Taine Tuaupiki (-2) – Hard not to feel sorry for the Warriors fullback. Had an unhappy start before being ruled out of the game with a Category 1 HIA.

2. Freddy Lussick (1) – Saw less than six minutes of time with Wayde Egan doing such a good job at hooker. At least he didn’t finish on zero.

3. Adam Pompey (16) – Came off at halftime with an injury and wasn’t sighted in the second half. Had some nice touches when he was on the field.

4. Dallin Watene-Zelezniak (24) – A very quiet outing from the star winger as he failed to make much of an impact on the contest. A tough watch for owners.

5. Elliott Whitehead (25) – Came up with his lowest score of the season. A monster breakeven will see his price go down ahead of the next round.

FULL-TIME - Raiders 20-18

The Warriors heads went down after that conversion miss and Canberra found enough to get home.

What a missed opportunity from the Warriors.

75th minute - Raiders 20-18

Scratch that.

The Warriors take the short kick-off and score the very next set with Addin Fonua-Blake adding to his hulking tally with another try.

It’s one of the most important he’s scored all season, but Chanel Harris-Tavita misses the relatively easy conversion.

That was a shocking kick.

73rd minute - Raiders 20-14

Could that be the ball game?

Roger Tuivasa-Sheck and Ali Leiataua were both indecisive and a little dab kick is pounced upon by Xavier Savage to put the Raiders back in front.

It’s going to be hard for the Warriors from here.

70th minute - 14-all

Fresh off his Origin debut, Mitch Barnett comes up with a huge play to lock the scores up.

On the back of a quick play the ball, the Blues forward dived at the line to score a crucial try out wide.

The boot of Chanel Harris-Tavita was again wayward to prevent the Warriors from taking their first lead of the game.

An enthralling final 10 minutes is coming up - who will come up clutch when it counts?

60th minute - Raiders 14-10

The Warriors continue to attack with Mitch Barnett almost getting on the end of a grubber - he just couldn’t bring it to ground.

On the very next set the Raiders go down the other end for a chance of their own, but they are denied due to a knock on from Sebastian Kris.

Could the visitors be starting to tire with some forwards forced to play big minutes?

50th minute - Raiders 14-10

The Warriors are down to 15 fit players with Adam Pompey ruled out with an injury suffered just before the break.

They’ll need to produce something special if they are to come from behind in this one.

It’s game on though. with the Warriors scoring first points in the second half on the back of Kurt Capewell touching down in the corner.

He’s shifted to the centres with all the injuries suffered.

HALFTIME - Raiders 14-6

One team is playing like its season is on the line, the other like the finals is beyond them.

Canberra came out of the blocks fast and they fully deserve their lead at the break.

Their only blemish came right in the shadows of halftime with Roger Tuivasa-Sheck busting through two defenders to get the Warriors on the board.

They needed that.

30th minute - Raiders 14-0

New Zealand has started to aim up a bit better in defence.

They’re getting more chances in Canberra territory, but the Raiders scramble is up to task - and a shocking kick from Te Maire Martin lets them off the hook.

Their last tackle options haven’t been up to standard so far, and that will need to change soon if they are to get on the board before the break.

20th minute - Raiders 14-0

Poor, poor defensive read by Marata Niukore.

He takes the inside man for no reason at all and with the ball going nowhere near him, allowing Hudson Young an easy passage to the line for his second try of the night.

This has the same vibe as the Gold Coast hiding from a few weeks back.

Taine Tuaupiki has been deemed a Category 1, ruling him out for the game. Roger Tuivasa-Sheck has gone to fullback.

A questionable call of a strip gives the Raiders an easy shot at goal and they take the two points on offer.

10th minute - Raiders 6-0

Canberra has a clear plan to attack Taine Tuaupiki in the air, and it works with their third kick off the night.

They score off the next set with Hudson Young catching the Warriors napping, breezing past Dylan Walker one off the ruck.

That’s poor from the visitors.

In a further blow, Tuaupiki has been sent for a HIA.

8PM: The IT issues are behind us and Friday Night Footy is underway.

Who have you taken, the Raiders or Warriors?

7.30PM: Both the Canberra Raiders and New Zealand Warriors are 1-17 from their teams named on Tuesday.

In big news for the Raiders, Jamal Fogarty (HFB $598,900) makes his long awaited return from a biceps injury in a huge boost for Canberra’s finals hopes.

He hasn’t played since round seven when he was struck down with injury in a loss to the Brisbane Broncos.

The Warriors are without Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad for tonight’s clash, with star recruit Roger Tuivasa-Sheck (CTW $458,700) lining up on the wing.

One of the more popular SuperCoach players heading into the season, RTS hasn’t gone beyond 80 points in 2024, cracking 70 just three times.

His owners will be hoping he can get on the end of a few meat pies to send his score towards the magical century mark.

EARLIER: After the thrilling conclusion to State or Origin at Suncorp Stadium on Wednesday night, our attention can now fully turn back to the NRL as the race for finals footy intensifies.

The sole game of Friday night to kick off round 20 sees the Canberra Raiders take on the New Zealand Warriors.

Both teams are hovering outside the top eight and are within one place of each other on the ladder, so needless to say it’s a must win for both.

Addin Fonua-Blake remains the second most-owned player in the game at a whopping 40.8%, but he’s been disappointing lately, averaging 49.3 points per game from his last three, significantly below his season average of 69.3.

After a bye last round, SuperCoaches will be happy to see some popular Raiders back in action, such as Kaeo Weekes who has been averaging 69.7 across his last three.

The Warriors have leaked 87 points on average to the last four fullbacks they’ve faced, so Weekes could be in for a big one here.

Another popular Raider who could profit from the Warriors’ sloppiness is Ethan Strange, with the Warriors giving up 86 points on average to the last four left side playmakers.

The Raiders are favourites at home, but with everything on the line, this fixture could go either way.

Who have you got from this one SuperCoaches?
