NRL SuperCoach wrap round 11: Dylan Egan injury and Origin auditions

From an injury to popular cheapie Dylan Egan, to a Terrell May masterclass as he chases a State of Origin debut, Sunday NRL action had it all.

Controversial try sparks Mam's comeback

From an injury to popular cheapie Dylan Egan, to a Terrell May masterclass as he chases a State of Origin debut, Sunday NRL action had it all.

EGAN GOES DOWN

The dependable Dragons forward had gone from cash cow to a near-keeper in a crowded 2RF, but after just five minutes at Suncorp Stadium he may become this week’s most popular trade out.

Egan suffered a suspected ACL injury and if scans confirm the early diagnosis, it will mean a fair stint out.

SuperCoach doesn’t have much room to accommodate for sideline stints, so the 51,000 players who have held onto the Dragon will take his more than $300,000 in price rises and flip for a gun.

MAY, KEAON FACE OFF FOR ORIGIN SPOT

Terrell May (121) was the standout captain option in a tough week for captains. But did he go so well he played his way into an Origin spot?

Especially following injuries to NSW rivals Jake Trbojevic (concussion), Jacob Saifiti (calf) and potentially Payne Haas (quad). He had a great clash with Keaon Koloamatangi (106), who has averaged 90 since his move to the middle, and may well have stolen the spot from May.

Neither plays next week so it’s a future problem for SuperCoaches.

HOSKING WILL BE VERY POPULAR AGAIN

Zac Hosking (73) was this week’s second most popular buy and produced two try contributions and a try on top of his usual work.

With all the forward injuries and Origin outs, he will be popular again this coming week. Didn’t play the full 80 minutes though (only 69 minutes).

PAYNE HAAS INJURY CONCERNS

The most popular captaincy choice this weekend, Haas turned in what’s become close to his par – a solid 82. Perhaps he was held back by a quad injury that has him in doubt for Origin?

It’s nothing to be sneezed at, and could be enough to seal a bunch of head to head wins with the way a number of regular guns failed to put up big scores (see Ryan Papenhuyzen’s 29 or Scott Drinkwater’s 27).

MAM’S THE MAN

Whether you agree with his return to the NRL or not, there is no denying Ezra Mam’s class on the field.

The five-eighth has been a low floor, high ceiling, SuperCoach prospect over the past few years, and he showed every bit of his attacking brilliance without overplaying his hand.

He had a try assist and try in the first half alone, and went on to ton up, with a massive 125 points.

GUTHO REIGNS

He’s not hit huge scores recently but Clint Gutherson bagged his fourth ton of the season – and first since round five.

Two tries, two line breaks and 20 points in tackle breaks helped King Gutho on his way to 110 – pre-updates.
