Newly appointed Brisbane coach Michael Maguire attempted to make amends with Gorden Tallis when they bumped into each other on grand final day. Read what the Broncos legend said next.

Gorden Tallis has rejected a peace offering from incoming Brisbane coach Michael Maguire after the pair accidentally bumped into each other at last Sunday’s NRL grand final.

The Broncos great has been a vocal critic of the decision to part with his former teammate Kevin Walters.

Just hours before the chance meeting, Tallis was on Triple M taking aim at Maguire as he went through his recent club coaching record where he had failed to play finals in his most recent six seasons at either South Sydney or the Tigers.

“They sacked Kevvie because he came 12th,” Tallis said on Triple M.

“Whilst Madge finished 9th at the Tigers and then got worse and came 11th, 13th and then 16th.”

He had also taken aim at Maguire while co-hosting NRL 360.

Tallis was walking back from a Bundaberg Rum promo when he ran into Maguire and his wife Joelle, prompting the unscheduled encounter.

Tallis confirmed the interaction.

“He said, ‘G’day mate,’ and shook my hand and he said, ‘We should catch up for a coffee’,” Tallis said.

“I told him, ‘I don’t drink coffee’.

“I don’t need to be friends with any coach. I never caught up with Kevvie, I don’t catch up with Des (Hasler) and I never caught up with Justin Holbrook. What I say is just my opinion. “It’s not an opinion on behalf of the Broncos old boys. No-one tells me what to say.

“I’m paid to give my opinion and when I’m asked I am just going to give my honest thoughts.”
