Cam Munster pinched man-of-the-match honours but not before being caught up in a bizarre national anthem drama.

Daniel Jarvis, a serial pest with 126,000 Instagram followers, embarrassed Hill Dickinson Stadium security by somehow entering the field of play and joining the Australian team during the national anthem.

Wearing a full Australian kit, Jarvis stood on the end of a line of players and wrapped his arm around Munster.

Jarvis, nicknamed Jarvo, has previously joined the Indian cricket team and All Blacks during big Tests matches.

The prankster waved to the crowd after the anthem.

The Australian camp will no doubt be seeking answers around security and how a member of the crowd could get so close to their national team.

Munster made light of the incident post-game.

Asked whether he knew who he had his arm around during the anthem, Munster said: “Yeah, it was Kevvie’s (Walters) cousin.

“I literally thought it was some guy who got the opportunity to have a chat and jump into the anthem with us.

“He asked to jump between me and Patty (Carrigan). Myself and Patty have a superstition when we play together that we’ll stand together at the end of the line and he tried to get between us.

“I said: ‘No, mate, you’re not doing that’.

“He then asked if he could put my arm around him and I said: ‘Ah, mate if that’s what you want to do’.

“Kevvie got his cousin here, great times.”

Tongue-in-cheek, Munster said: “Obviously security is great around here.”

Merseyside Police confirmed Jarvis had been detained at the stadium.

“We can confirm that officers have detained a man following an incident at Hill Dickinson Stadium, Liverpool this afternoon, Saturday 1 November,” the statement reads.

“The 37-year-old man from Gravesend, Kent was detained at around 2.30pm after entering the pitch before the start of the the England v Australia Rugby League match.

“He has been arrested on suspicion of Possession of articles for use in fraud & Fraud by false representation, and has been taken to a police station for questioning.”

Jarvis also ran into the pitch during a Test match between England and India and collided with English cricketer Jonny Bairstow.

He also caused problems at an FA Cup game and managed to include himself in the closing ceremony of the Paris Olympics last year when he masqueraded as a member of the Great Britain team.

Focused Australian players didn’t seem to notice Jarvis singing the national anthem.

Focused Australian players didn’t seem to notice Jarvis singing the national anthem before Munster eventually worked out the Kangaroos had been done by the prankster.

“It took me a while to click on but it was pretty funny. He got me ... he got me an absolute ripper,” Munster said.

“Security guards or one of the people who work at the grounds went and grabbed him and were pretty aggressive with him. I knew straight away I got stitched up massively.”

The RFL is aware of the incident.
