Revealed: Rabbitohs star Cody Walker lifts the lid on the Lachlan Lewis brain snap labelled the ‘dumbest’ act ever seen on the footy field

Four years after the fact, Lachlan Lewis’ inexplicable brain snap remains one the strangest acts to happen on a rugby league field. Now Rabbitohs star Cody Walker has lifted the lid on the bizarre incident.

South Sydney star Cody Walker has lifted the lid on the Lachlan Lewis brain snap labelled as the ‘dumbest’ act on a rugby league field ever.

The moment, four years after the fact, still lives in infamy on NRL highlights reels of the most bizarre things to happen on the football field.

As players walked from the field at halftime during the 2021 clash, former Canterbury playmaker Lewis made a beeline for Walker before grabbing and rag-dolling the Rabbitohs five-eighth to the ground.

The seemingly unprovoked incident left the entire rugby league world scratching their heads, including one of Walker’s young sons.

Speaking on the The Unscripted Show podcast, Walker, who had two young boys at the time, revealed one son had bravely faced-up to Lewis over the incident in a Brisbane hotel.

The Rabbitohs along with the Bulldogs, Warriors, Raiders and Eels were based in the same Covid bubble in Brisbane during the 2021 season.

“The funny thing after that, we were all staying in the same hotel … Bulldogs, Souths, Parramatta, Warriors and Canberra … and my son, who has no filter right …,” Walker said.

“He talks to anyone, he’s a maniac.

“He actually questioned him (Lewis).

“He goes to him, ‘why’d you tackle my dad for?‘.

“Lachy came up to me after it, the next day, and said ‘oh, you’re son actually questioned me.

“But it simmered the whole thing down as well, we just had a bit of a laugh about it.

“It was a funny experience when you think about it. In the moment, it probably gave us a bit of an edge because he got sinned and we ran away with it.

“It was strange.

Over the years, it had been suggested that a sledge by Walker, telling Lewis to ‘go back to reserve grade’, had triggered the peculiar incident.

But Walker insisted the altercation was never anything serious.

“I made a bit of a break down the sideline to finish the first half,” Walker said.

“I sort of stepped back in and Will Hopoate tackled me, and I think Lachlan Lewis was on top … I can’t remember.

“He grabbed me or touched me or something and I just said, ‘don’t f*****g touch me’.

“And then he goes, ‘what did you say?’.

“So I said, ”don’t f*****g touch me’.

“And then he just grabs me, that was it.

“If you hear that story, it’s not anything (major).”

While the altercation generated plenty of headlines, and calls for Lewis to be suspended for his actions, the Bulldogs five-eighth escaped a ban but was hit with a $1,600 by the match review committee.
