A host of the Territory’s rising rugby league talents have been selected to play for the Titans in the Australian Secondary Schools Rugby League competition next week.

The NT’s up and coming under-15 boys and under-16 girls will make the trip to Townsville this weekend to tackle some of the best young talents in the country.

Every match across the tournament will be streamed live and exclusive on KommunityTV, with the tournament live streamed across all of our News Corp Australia digital mastheads.

For the Territory players this is a significant opportunity to get noticed with NRL scouts and development officers from across the country in attendance.

And while they’ve had a hold up with cancelled flights out of Darwin, NRL NT pathways and education coordinator Duncan MacGillivray believes the side can mix it with the rest.

“We’ve got some really good talent in our teams and both sides have gelled really well in our trainings,” he said.

“The numbers have been really strong and there’s been regular attendance for more than full teams, which has paid off when we’ve had injuries.

“Our coaching staff have been amazing as well, they’ve worked really hard in a role that has some tough parts to it, but they do it for the love of the game and with a smile on their face.”

Among the players to watch from the boys squad is Jake Park, who’s shown plenty to offer, and Sini Tagiloa, who’s put in the hard yards in training.

Sophie Roberts has been named the girls captain and has caught the eye already leading where she needs to and impressing her coaches.

“For a lot of our kids this is their first taste of highly competitive competition and will give them a good look at what rep footy is about,” MacGillivray said.

“It’s a different level of competition and will open their eyes to what they need to improve on when playing outside the Territory.

“This has been a really good year for numbers, we actually have depth and the competition for spots has made these players hungrier to get involved in this competition that could open a few doors.

“Every NRL scout will be there and agents looking to attach themselves to a name so it’s a massive opportunity for our kids.”
