NRL world rally around Victor Radley after star suffers potentially career-ending concussion

The NRL world has sent an outpouring of support to Roosters star Victor Radley amid grave fears he may be forced to retire.

Star Rooster cops brutal head knock against the Broncos

Roosters enforcer Victor Radley’s NRL future has been plunged into uncertainty after he was knocked out in Thursday night’s clash with the Broncos.

The 26-year-old was left face down after a shocking friendly fire collision with James Tedesco in the opening minutes of the match.

After colliding with the Roosters fullback, Radley’s head whipped back and the back-rower stayed down for several minutes before he was escorted off the pitch.

Radley was immediately deemed a category one and ruled out of the contest.

It was a brutal blow for the Roosters who fielded three rookies for the match against Brisbane and after Radley was ruled out of the game they were left lacking some much-needed experience on the pitch.

However, more concerning for the Tri Colours is the fact that Radley’s future in rugby league is now clouded in uncertainty after his sixth failed HIA in the last three seasons.

Radley will miss at least next week’s match against the Panthers as a result of the NRL’s mandatory 11-day stand-down following a diagnosed concussion.

However, he could be forced to sit out for longer and there is the potential of it possibly even ending his career after yet another concussion.

Last year, Roosters coach Trent Robinson revealed Radley’s tackling technique and overall defensive approach had been tweaked in an attempt to try and prevent future concussions as much as possible.

But the reality is more and more Aussie sports stars have been forced to medically retire as a result of head knocks in recent years.

Most recently Sharks forward Dane Finucane announced his immediate retirement after a concussion in Round 3 last year against the Tigers.

And NRL fans fear after the latest concussion, Radley may need to hang up the boots for his own health.

“Someone save Victor Radley from himself – a tonne of life to live post-footy,” one NRL fan wrote on X after his concussion on Thursday night.

“Oh boy. That’s likely concussion number 500 for Victor Radley. Hope he’s okay,” another said.

“I don’t think he will play out the season. That looked bad,” a third added.

While a fourth wrote: “Victor Radley has to be one of the unluckiest athletes to ever exist.”
