The depleted Broncos have received a boost with key prop Tom Flegler to return from Queensland Origin duties for Saturday night’s clash against the Titans at Cbus Super Stadium.
Brisbane coach Kevin Walters will resist the temptation to recall all his Origin stars as he shows faith in the second-string Broncos who stunned the Dragons in last Sunday’s 32-18 romp at Suncorp Stadium.
With Brisbane facing a Thursday night road trip to Parramatta just five days after the Titans showdown, Walters will not risk Maroons quartet Pat Carrigan, Selwyn Cobbo, Corey Oates and Kurt Capewell against the Gold Coast.
But the injury-ravaged Broncos will welcome the return of Origin extended-squad member Flegler, who will come off the bench in the Titans derby after sitting out the Dragons demolition.
Rookie prop Xavier Willison and bench hooker Cory Paix have been ruled out due to concussions, opening the door for Flegler and off-contract rake Jake Turpin to add experience to Brisbane’s pack against the struggling Titans.

Starting hooker Billy Walters said the Broncos are wary of pushing their Origin stars to breaking point as fifth-placed Brisbane look to freshen-up their big guns for a late-season charge towards the top four.
“We are striving for that top-four spot and we have to knock off a few teams if we want to get there,” Walters said.
“This is a really important time for everyone, not just the Broncos but all the teams.
“We are trying to get the Origin boys to come through unscathed and I’m not sure who will come back this week or next week, but we have a big run to the finals.
“We play Parramatta twice (in rounds 19 and 24), so that’s two big games for us because they are on the same points, but just beneath us on for-and-against.”
The Broncos underlined their renewed toughness as a club by overcoming the loss of a staggering 13 players to dispose of the eighth-placed Dragons as ‘Kevvie’s Kids’ ably supported champion halfback Adam Reynolds.
Brisbane (22 competition points) need at least two more wins to clinch a top-eight spot and Walters said the Broncos will go the jugular against a Titans side hurtling toward the wooden spoon.
“I’m not sure if they (Titans) are feeling the pressure (of their ladder position), I’m sure they probably are,” he said. “If we can get off to a good start we can maybe get in their heads and make them feel like they can’t compete with us.
“Unfortunately we have lost twice to the Cowboys this season so we have to get a bit of pride back and get the job done against the Titans.
“It (the Dragons win) was really good for the belief in the team.
“It doesn’t matter who is playing, there were a lot of key players out, but the other boys stepped in and we ran away with it at the end.”
