Raiders star Curtis Scott has been sacked immediately.
It was announced last week that he would front the Raiders’ board of directors this week where he would be asked to show cause for why his contract should not be torn up.
The club confirmed on Monday in a statement the 23-year-old’s contract has been terminated.
It comes after the NRL issued him a breach notice in July in relation to an alleged incident inside a Canberra nightclub in May.
“The Canberra Raiders Board of Directors today decided to terminate the contract of Curtis Scott effective immediately,” the club statement said.
“The Board carefully considered the statements made at the ‘show cause’ hearing with Curtis Scott on August 17 and the material supplied afterwards.

“The Board decided that Curtis Scott’s prior behaviour and recent assault charge has brought the Club into disrepute, and they could not ignore this and the responsibilities that his NRL playing Contract entails.
“The Board said the Club would continue to support Curtis Scott’s ongoing rehabilitation and it will be in contact with NRL Welfare in this regard.
“The club will be making no further comment on the issue.”
Scott had been charged with assault over an alleged nightclub brawl earlier this year. He has previously said he will vigorously defend the charges.
The case is listed for mention on August 30 for a hearing date.
He was banned for three matches by the NRL at the time and was fined $15,000 for bringing the league into disrepute.
Reports this weekend revealed Scott had attended Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and undergone psychiatric treatment as part of an attempt to save his career.
Scott remained in Canberra when the rest of his team moved to Queensland as part of the NRL’s logistical nightmare to continue the season during the latest waves of Covid-19 transmissions.
It is not the first time that Scott has run into trouble during his NRL career. In early 2020, Scott was alleged to have assaulted two police officers when they found him passed out in Moore Park.
However, the assault charges were dropped after reviewing the bodycam footage from the police officers involved.
Scott did plead guilty to two charges of offensive behaviour.
The 23-year-old is in his second season with Ricky Stuart’s Canberra side, after spending three years with the Melbourne Storm that saw him play a role in winning the 2017 premiership.
