NRL Market Watch: Hudson Young signs new deal as Raiders ready for free agency frenzy

One of Canberra’s brightest stars has sealed his NRL future on the eve of the finals but the Raiders still face a big battle to lock in their roster.

NSW back-rower Hudson Young has given the Raiders a massive boost on the eve of their finals campaign by inking a long-term deal to remain with the club.

The Raiders thwarted any threat of Young hitting the open market on November 1 by ensuring the 25-year-old was locked down until the end of 2027.

Young, who still had 12 months left on his deal, said it was an easy decision to recommit to Canberra ahead of their clash against Newcastle on Sunday.

“This club means everything to me and my family and it’s been home for me since 2017 and I’m really excited to extend my stay,” Young said.

“My partner and I are really settled here and I’m happy off the field and on the field, and I’m really excited about the squad we’re building.”

Young made his Origin debut earlier this year and is closing in on 100 top grade games. Halfback Jamal Fogarty has indicated he will test the open market come November 1 while the likes of Nick Cotric, Elliott Whitehead, Jordan Rapana and Zac Woolford are also free-agents at the end of next season.

“I feel like we’ve got really good juniors coming through,” Young said.

“Our SG Ball team went really well and our NSW Cup team has had a great season as well and I want to be a part of their development. I feel like we’re building something really special and that’s something I want to be a part of.”

“I’ve worked really closely with Ricky and the coaches and the biggest goal is to win a premiership here at the Raiders.”
